I did not go in with that attitude into hl2 though either - i really liked the first game. It really is not the same thing. I gave those games a chance. But hey just cos popular opinion is against me here on that, i must be wrong.
The point is that you're basically saying, "Popular opinion is against me here on that, but they're wrong, so their opinion counts for nothing." You're pretty much communicating that your tastes are superior to the tastes of people who like
Half-Life 2 or
Halo.
You may have some good points about
Trespasser, but following those by insulting people with a generalisation based on your superior tastes is perhaps not the best way to get people to engage with your points.

Yeah, pretty much what Thirith said.

I bought it out of morbid curiosity from the last thread about it here, and I can see what the tres com guys mean; there is a reasonably good game in there, but you have to be prepared to dig to find it.
Unfortunately, in its vanilla state, it's an incredibly graphically limited game, to the extent that it adversely affects gameplay. And doubly unfortunately, finding the information to make the game acceptable by modern standards was painfully difficult I seem to remember.
I might try it again, especially if it's any easier to mod these days.
The primary offender is actually quite interesting in itself; it's a pre-cursor to today's LOD technology as seen in the likes of Guild Wars. Everything in the game world is rendered as a sprite until it crosses a line, at which point it becomes a 3D model. Unfortunately for Trespasser, this line is ludicrously close to the player, being only about 10 feet away, making it all rather ridiculous.
Can anyone else confirm that they've managed to get around this? Last time I checked, this distance was hard-coded and not possible to change easily.

I had a demo of this. It seemed interesting albeit I couldn't find any guns and I was killed instantly. The only other thing I remember is that I could see boobs if I looked down. Quality.

Yes sorry, I did not mean it as superior tastes. I thought certain parts of hl2 were rather good (such as the prison stand-off where you set up sentry guns and also barricading myself inside a house while under attack). There is a time and a place for both types of games. The thing is, I am just fed up with people on here issuing their statements forcefully as fact and coming down on those who differ. I admit that is slightly what I have done here but it was more in annoyance at people who do it constantly and with extreme attitude. Bringing that into it was rather stupid of me though.

As I mentioned in the post above I'm fairly sure there's a hack/mod to change the LOD distance. I would be in the "Programming" sub-forum (formerly known as "Trespasser Hacking"). Lemme check....
I believe (
http://trescom.3dactionplanet.gamespy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6444) this is the mod that does it. Look for the term "Draw Distance" in the docs.
edit: missed that inselaffe had linked to the primer which includes info about ATX

That didn't happen in this thread though so I don't see why you brought your own outburst here. This game is a wreck. It's going to get bashed. Nobody came along and said Halo/HL2 rock it. So I'm confused and so are you. :)
I think Trespasser is a fascinating look back at an early attempt at sandbox "reality" gaming. It's too bad that the project was run so incredibly poorly because the game has many nifty ingredients that could've been put together much better if there had been some sort of unified plan. In the end it turned out to be just another disappointing result to another late '90s high-minded game concept. Plenty of those back then.
It's definitely cool that the game found a little cult following and that they have enhanced and added a lot to it. You'll find that games like Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3, STALKER, and even FarCry and Crysis have communities that do similar modding projects.

Seconded.
He's been doing this for a while. He's pretty much one of TTLG's many, many village idiots. Every chance he gets to bring up how much he hates HL2 or Steam, he does, often when he has no reason to. He also likes playing victim and acting like OTHER people are forcing their opinions on HIM. Annnd he's convinced that everyone on TTLG likes HL2 other than him, just so he can play victim some more.

It was only a matter of time...
Seriously what the fuck are you then boyo, if not the very type i was talking about. Mind you no one could possibly hope to reach your level of arrogance.
I only mention hl2 in this case because in a previous discussion about trespasser people complained that they could not forgive a buggy game and was not polished enough compared to hl2. I was merely using it as an example of a polished game that most people are familiar with. I do not hate hl2, if you actually read what i say you will see that.
And YOU force your opinions of EVERYONE. If someone does not agree with you, you insult them.
