I never played any of the Tribes games but stories of their jetpacking-goodness always interested me. If this plays as good as it looks like it plays then I will play this when it comes out.

F2P games with gamebalance-impacting "microtransactions"... I'm lovin' them!

I haven't bought any for-realbux-content in APB:R, yet I'm regularly near the top of the scoreboards anyway. So I'd say making balanced microtransaction-stuff is possible. But then again APB:R is only in Beta yet so maybe it's too early to say. Once it's properly released the developers might well start introducing some overpowered stuff if the regular for-sale-content ain't bringing in enough moolah. :erg:

Yeah... the tidal currents often change once F2P games come out of beta. Just look at World of Tanks, I've been told that you can't get beyond a certain point (where F2P equipment/hardware/etc aren't competitive any more) and thus progression grinds to a halt if you don't pay real monies.

I hope that's not going to be the case, at any rate I'm sure to be trying this out, having played all Tribes games to exhaustion. From the looks of things it seems a bit slower-paced, but moreover I hope the strategic/tactical/sandbox elements remain, like building/securing a base/whatever/landmark with forcefields and turrets and whatnot. Still, the video looks better than I'd expected, although it's only action gameplay the map looks suitably large and open. I do wonder if F2P won't mess up the balance, this is one of those MP games where it's immensely rewarding to win based on skill rather than an active credit card history (but then I suppose most are).
