For what it's worth I got killed by an inf about five times in a row, WITH a juggernaut (badly) guarding me as I repaired the gens. Once they upgrade melee they can just run up, one-hit-kill-you, and slink back into some corridor. They're extremely powerful when played right.
But, yes, the weapon XP requirements are ridiculous. And this is AFTER they lowered them. When the patch went live those 100k guns were 180k. I expect/hope them to continue lowering it, otherwise it functionally *is* play to win, at least with the MIRV mortar and the Tech thumper.

Well we're not talking about impossible here. You can get 100k in a week as it is. It's also nice that upgrades cannot be bought with Shazbucks at all, you have to earn them like everybody else.
The real problem I have with the XP is that the amount you gain is based only on the duration of the match. Your performance, win, lose, nothing matters. You can literally just spawn, hide somewhere for the entire round and still get your 300.

That's a balance problem, really. I took a look at the stats, and the Thumper, for example, is just a Spinfusor that does more to lights, a fraction less to mediums, significantly less to heavies, and arcs. That's it. It's widely used because the default SMG is completely useless- if they outright replaced the SMG with the assault rifle, or at least buffed the projectile speed and damage, I'd use it instead of the Thumper every time. The MIRV is somewhat in the same boat, I'd say it's a bit too effective but part of that is just that the default mortar is very, very hard to use on anything except turrets.
Koki- Are you sure it's heavily based on time? I've been averaging 1000-1500 for decent rounds with usually around ten kills and a couple of flag retrievals.

I play TDM exclusively until I unlock a class that will make me actually useful in CTF. I figure rounds in CTF are much longer than the ones in TDM, which are 10-minutes long
tops.

Hmm. CTF usually doesn't go longer than 15 mins, so I'm not sure that's it. I haven't touched TDM, it could be scored differently.
You start with Pathfinder which is great for CTF, and the other two aren't bad either by any means. I'd say give them a try in CTF, that's really what Tribes is based around.

Pfft yea maybe if you play 6 hours a day. But most of us have this thing called "Jobs."
