Well, I broke out the ole Thief box tonight for a bit of nerding:cheeky: As I was setting it up I started to laugh at myself wondering if it takes anyone else 10 minutes to prepare for a night of Thief
This...is my computer:

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/9161/0920081958si1.jpgas we all know, it's a sin to play Thief on an LCD and that ole CRT I picked up for 15 bucks a few years back JUST to play Thief.
I then, of course, have to install my $40 gaming microsoft headphones, pull out the front 2 drawers of my desk and put a peice of wood across them to set my laptop and mouse on. Finally, I have to round up a stack of papers for my 'mouse pad' since I usually don't need one but the mouse tends to stick on the wood.
Finally, I have to tuck my laptop screen down so my fingers can reach the keyboard but the screen doesn't block my view of the crt moniter:D
Maybe this isn't a Thiefbox after all, but a techy rednecking job, haha!
Feel free to post pics of ya'lls thief boxes, I know it might have been done before but i'd love to view!

Oh no. I've been playing on an LCD for... dear Builder. I'm going to Hell, aren't I?
Hey, that setup is impressive. I never make preparations... I just... stock up on water and munchies and... pop the CD in.

Why? I've been playing Thief on an LCD for years now and it looks better than any CRT.

I refuse to use LCD for a number of reasons. It's CRT all the way baby. Too bad you can't find 'em anymore :(

On an LCD black isn't black.
Every (rare) time I go back to a CRT I'm taken aback all over again.

Time for you guys to get a better LCD. Looks fine on mine, but I know black is bad on many.

Hi thief13
As an idea have you thought about putting that FM up for adoption via the editing guild..?

I love my LCD, black is black. No problems with Thief for me. No washed out CRT ever again.

This is my Thief corner:

Inline Image:
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/118/thiefcornercn4.th.jpgIt's actually my everyday computer, but I mostly use it for Thief right now:
* To the left you can see my noteboard with detailed descriptions and blueprints for my never-ending FM-project (the title has been delibarately blurred :p ). The pictures to the left shows what my part of The City was supposed to look like when I planned it, but once I started building I learned a thing or two about scale and limitations, so I had to cut it up - severely...
* Beneath the noteboard you can see my project-notebook filled with todo-lists, blueprint sketches and... stuff. That orange thing is an ancient device called a "pencil". They once used it for writing things down on paper. As you can see, I'm a left-handed taffer, but I use the mouse with my right hand, so I can write and mouse at the same time. Impressive, right? :erm:
* To the bottom left you can see my headphones; perfect when playing Thief or using DromEd, especially at night when my neighbours are all asleep.
* In the middle you can see my beloved CRT (my
favourite fattie). I bought it 8 years ago and it's still going strong (with black blacks). Lately it's been showing signs of ghosting, though, so I've thought of replacing it (or trying another extension cord).
In front of the CRT you can see my keyboard, which is actually my first and very own keyboard that I bought 14 years ago. What can I say; it's a good board... The mouse (seen to the right), on the other hand, was bought last year.
* To the far right you can see a pile of audio CDs that I used to listen to while using DromEd, but lately I've switched to mp3 or webradio.
* The actual computer is not shown in the picture, but it's a relatively silent black box, out of the way, nothing fancy - it's just doing what it's supposed to do.
* I removed the left arm support from my chair, because of how the table is constructed.
* On the monitor you can see my desktop with Firefox showing some obscure forum that you may have heard of :)
* 25 out of 47 desktop icons are Thief-related:
Thief: TDP
Thief GoldThief 2: TMA
Thief 2X: T2X got its own Thief2-installation
DarkLoaderGarrettLoaderDromEd 2: DDFix:ed version of DromEd 2

omg I'm not alone in this world! do you also play with inverse mouse on?:p
Well, I've tried playing Thief on 2 different LCD's over the years and they both have been pretty bad, but neither were very expensive. I was out of town all summer and was forced to play Thief on my laptop lcd and I'll tell ya, last night I felt like I was playing a whole new game:D

Hmm yeah, I know I was contacted by Phantom about doing this a few times and he listed it in this thread (#41)(
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1684415#post1684415)
as abandoned, I wasn't sure if there was anything else I could do, it would be absolutly terrific if somone were to take it up again:( I always keep telling myself that one day when I get some time i'm going to finish it, but after so many years I'm starting to doubt:( Thanks for the interest though:D
