400+ MB of demo on its way.
It's so very worth it. Just when I started missing the fun times I had with Bionic Commando, this comes around and makes me happy again.
Day one purchase for me.

I mean, say I purchase it from Steam, does it require me to be logged in every time I want to play it?
Here's their description of "offline mode" from Steam's knowledge base:

You might consider registering a dummy Steam account with an address @trashmail.net or some such, and installing some of the free game demos that they have, in order to ascertain whether or not the service is likely to annoy you (personally I don't much like it, but lots of people feel otherwise, so you may as well find out for yourself).

Why aren't more of you talking about this lovely little surprise gem sleeper hit of the summer? I just got through playing co-op with a friend, and as long as the actual game doesn't end up being one of those "everything is awesome at first glance, but it only has 5 levels and ends in 3 hours (portal)" games, it could easily end up being my personal best game of the year.
When you play through a demo three times in a row and still have as much fun as the first time through, you know you've got something potentially great on your hands. You people need to be drooling over this like tasty pie.
Edit: Seriously. This thread has been around since December, and it's only garnered 24 replies in all that time. FOR SHAME, TTLG. I thought you all were cool.

Let's not forget the whole absurd Steam pricing scheme for our Euro friends, where $1 USD = 1 Euro.
Hmm, what new release to get, the trendy indie game of the week (which is over-priced and lacking basic features expected in a 2009 game) or ArmA 2 (a massive sandbox game with the support of a talented and dedicated modding community that will sustain the longevity for years)? These choices are so difficult.

I could care less about it being the trendy indie game of the week, or that ArmA 2 is gonna have a shit ton of user made maps in the near future. All that matters to me is that Trine is an absolute blast to play, and I'm buying it day one simply because of that.
And what basic feature is it missing? Online co-op? Yeah, I admit that would be nice to have. But considering most games like this are better played with friends sitting in the same room as you, it isn't a deal breaker for me. I'd consider it a fluff feature more than a necessity.
Lastly, the price. $30 might be a little steep for a download-only game. Then again, all downloadable games have a stigma of only being worth $10-20 no matter how good they are. Take Bionic Commando for instance (yeah, I talk about it alot). For 15 bucks, it was an absolute steal. Considering the hours of happy times I've spent playing BC, I'd happily slap down a good $30-40 if I had to do it all over again. Course we don't know if whatever downloadable game we're buying is worth the extra cash we're spending in relation to other DLC titles until it's too late. But hey, we more or less take the same gamble when we spend $60 on the latest greatest AAA hot shit blockbuster exclusive.
Ultimately, I don't see the difference between a good download only game and a top tier shelf title. Trine looks like it's had alot of time and talent spent on it, and offers up more good gameplay than most big budget titles I've seen recently. If they want to charge $30 or more, they're more than justified in my opinion.

i passed on braid (so far) but this looks positively awesome !
if movie-tie in shit games like T4 or Transformers2 can ask for 40-50$ for uninspired, generic gameplay (and a very short running time), "indies" with heart and brains can ask the same without a special coll. edition retail box and 100 bought metacritic reviews.
btw, yes, BionicCommando Rearmed was/is awesome.
I didn't dare buy the new pc game since I don't think it can reach those heights.
Saam on 29/6/2009 at 15:35
Thanks for the replies regarding Steam, etc. I did bite the bullet and pre-order Trine from Steam (wish it were available on Impulse, I would've bought it from there).
For me, this game is totally worth the $30, even without the online co-op that everyone (including me) would love to have. However, keep in mind that the developers have stated that it would be something they might release in a patch in the future, obviously if the game sells well.
So go purchase it already! Worse case scenario, you buy the game hoping for online co-op, and they don't release it because of lackluster sales. Well, at least you supported a 'indie' developer that, in my opinion, has developed a real gem of a game and it really shows it. Give this game a chance and maybe enough people will buy it and Frozenbyte will release the online co-op feature that we all will be totally stoked over.
