Meh. Honestly, the demo felt a lot more like a college game design final project then anything exceptional. Well executed, I suppose, but somehow I suspect it's more like an over blown little big planet level then anything remotely approaching a $30 game.
Might look in when it inevitably hits a steam special for $5. Till then it's yet another friggin indie physics game.

never mind the physics. the fighting is strong and the grappling hook is excellent. crushing skeletons with boxes is fun and the overall design and little animations of the characters are lovely. Nowadays "physics-enhanced" gameplay mechanics aren't something to phone home about. It's become new the lens flare or rocketlauncher. I'm okay with that. And there's always hope for online coop later on.
I'm enjoying shadowgrounds pretty much for it's old-school vibe (less it's "acting")

30 € in Europe... Well, this sucks...
Any alternative download? I bought World of Goo only because they had a direct download on their site for 20 dollars. Fuck the Steam € ripoff.

trine retail is the same: 30euros
it will be released on impulse as well but later, according to the forum, don't know the price. btw, the devs said we should all buy the steam version because it's the most dev-friendly :)
(meaning they get more money out of it)

It's up on Steam! ALRIGHT!
I'll have it later tonight. :D

I've been playing the full version -- it is -fantastic-. I haven't had this much fun playing a game in a LONG time. The lush scenery, the music, the puzzles, the physics, everything clicks very well. I am going to pace myself so I can enjoy it longer. :)
I truly hope they release a level editor/SDK for the game, it has loads of potential.
On a side note -- I purchased Trine off Steam with the Shadowgrounds game included, and while waiting for Trine to be released I thought I would try Shadowgrounds, and damn, that is one fun game! I beat it a couple of days, and I really enjoyed it. Old school action; I felt like I was playing Gauntlet again, but with super-cool weapons, and a great renderer to boot.
It looks like Frozenbyte is quickly becoming one of my favorite game developers...

In about 15 minutes, I'll be playing right along with you. :D
Edit: Or at least I would have. Halfway through the download, my internet connection flatlined. I'm typing this on a laptop at a wifi location, getting my damn game I just bought in total inconvenience.
Cable company won't have me back up til the 8th...so...everyone have fun in the meantime.
Nevermind. I'm dumb. But on the plus side, so is Charter.

I like it so far. puzzels are on the light side... enemy placement is akward with a few "enemy spawn sequences", best character is the Thief so far since the wizard is so limited (1 box ? 2 box ?) and I did not need the knights throw ability yet....emphasis on YET 'cause I dont know how long the game's gonna be.
Briareos H on 3/7/2009 at 11:57
Yep I'm interested in how long the game really is. I'd appreciate an estimate from people here who finish the game.
