My Thief: DP will not start. The main menu comes up and I can pick a game to load. But once I start loading it always locks up. Last time I had to restart my computer completely to get out. I can't understand why, since I played it month or so before and everything was fine  It's Thief I (not Thief gold), and my computer is XP, if that makes any difference.

Have you tried looking through the big red FAQ at the top of the forum to see if your problem is in there?

Yes, I did. Nothing seems to fit exactly what it happening to my game. I'll check everything out again, though...

Did you recently install a new graphics card or update your graphics card drivers?
Kovitlac on 17/5/2006 at 21:35
No - all that was done before I played Thief last time. It worked fine, then.

When you try and play does it just show a black screen and you hear a beep but can't see any window? Or does it simply crash to desktop with no error message?

I'm waiting for it to load the game and it just freezes right there. I'm not getting any error message. I control-alt-delete and it says 'not responding' so I had to stop it.

I suggest a reinstall. Have you tried that yet?

No, I haven't. I was worried about loosing my saved games. Is there a way I can keep them w/o loosing them?

Find the directory they are in, zip them up and copy the zip file somewhere safe. Once you've reinstalled, put them back in.
