It looks like you haven't played a game in about 10 years either, lol.
Oh well, better late than never; these are still great games.
Of the 3, like the other guys in this thread my vote is with Deus Ex. It stands right along side SS2 as the best story-telling FPS with RPG elements. SS2 is more "pure" to its concept; DX is messier, but maybe the better game (IMHO) in perfectly juggling different gameplay concepts into a nice synthesis. Well, they're both awesome games, and if you love one chances are you'll love the other.

I don't like Deus Ex so I'll have to say Mass Effect(which I've heard very good things about) and failing that give BG a go.

I don't like Deus Ex so[...]
I'm one of those savages too but I would recommend it mainly because everyone else generally seems to hold it up as an example of one of the best games ever.

For one game, I'd recommend Deus Ex. Its better than either bioware game, in terms of both gameplay and plot.
More importantly, Deus Ex is FREE if you use the gametap player!
Play it first.
THen, when you are ready to buy a game, I'd recommend Mass Effect first. its better than the first Baldur's Gate game. If you can, however, I'd recommend playing through all the baldur's gate games in succession. However, you should be advised that this will most likely be a monthlong or more endeavor, and you risk burning yourself out if you play just baldur's gate games and nothing else in between em.

Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic are terrific games. Don't listen to the pricks that try to boil everything down with cynicism. They'll likely write off Fallout 3 without even giving it a good chance (ie several hours of play and not 30 minutes).

There must be something wrong with you if you don't like Deus Ex. Something akin to like, being a child molester or something.

There must be something wrong with you if you don't like Planescape Torment and Fallout 2. Something akin to like, being a child molester or something.

Hey man, at least I don't hate Deus Ex.
