Trying to decide on game to play... - by sh0ck3r

Icewind Dale has a story and a very good one, though its primary focus is tactical combat with a wholly user made party. BG2 has a very good story too, it's a lot more overt in its presentation, hitting you over the metaphorical head with cutscenes etc, but even at the time it was cliche-in-a-box (yeah, not helped now by Bioware using its story elements over and over and over and over and over again) and elements of it made little sense- I've just lost my soul, fortunately I can wander around helping tree huggers etc for as long as I want with no ill effects...
And Fallout and Icewind Dale or BG2 have very little in common except they are both isometric RPGs. The gameplay and combat mechanics are fundamentally different.

Speaking of "required playing" games, PC Gamer came out with its latest '(

i was thinking of grabbing the orange box because i've heard good things about portal and wouldn't mind having hl2 just for a rainy day
what you guys think of HL2? I played it for a bit on Xbox and was not impressed...

I think it's brilliant, at times. It makes you feel like the most important person in a very convincing world, and manages to be quite atmospheric along the way.

HL2 is one of my favourite games. That makes me a filthy heathen around here because it's "cool" to hate the game.
Malf on 23/10/2008 at 06:55
HL2 is one of the best linear FPS series ever.
Lots here will probably disagree, and that's fine.
It doesn't make them right however :p

B-but linearity is bad! Not having a plot spoonfed to me through cutscenes is bad! Having only 2 vehicles when Halo has 4 is bad!

Knee-jerking is great!
HL2 is great (Episode 2 in particular)!

Especially considering that when it comes to games you're so passionate yourself.
