No, shitty assessment as usual. You misinterpret and overreact as you breathe, but I wouldn't have it any other way :thumb:

I think, generally speaking, you guys are reading my words as an attack on fan made patches, which, while understandable, isn't really my intent. People should do what makes them happy, and that's ultimately what's important here.
My point basically begins and ends as follows: I just can't imagine investing the considerable time and energy into something so impersonal and ultimately unimportant.

Right. Unlike investing years of effort into
playing video games, which is clearly a much more important use of one's time.

yeah I don't do much of that these days, either

I think that's exactly the thing though. I don't think you're attacking them - but my mind boggles at the point you're making, mainly because I cannot believe that you invest all your time and energy into deeply personal, important activities. Perhaps you do and we're not being fair to you - but I'd say that 99.99% of all people spend a considerable amount of their time on stuff like watching TV, reading books, playing games etc. Are these deeply personal? Perhaps, in the way that anything you get enjoyment and satisfaction out of can be deeply personal. Are they important? Again, only in the sense that it's important to do things that you derive satisfaction from.
If I may ask: what do you invest time and energy in?

Then GTFO. Go back to re-ordering Muse on i-tunes.
Have you even PLAYED KotOR 2? The ending was basically non-existent, due to the publisher demanding a pre-christmas release. They are simply restoring the content that the devs wanted to include, but were denied.

hahahahahaha no.
Quit defending the indefensible.

Earthquakes, tsunami, me agreeing with dethtoll. Can there be any doubt that The Apocalypse is coming?
Really though, and speaking for myself only, the time I 'waste' on modding would only be spent doing something else unproductive otherwise like watching TV or burbling on the internets, so what's the loss?

Home renovation and writing with the goal of future publication. This year I've quite consciously tried to cut back on my hobbies that aren't particularly constructive--like gaming--to focus on using my spare time to accomplish my current goals.
Now, having said that, I don't want to turn this into "my hobbies are more constructive than yours" asshattery, because everyone has preferred methods of spending their personal time and who the fuck am I to judge how anyone else spends his or her free time? We all need to blow off steam one way or another, and I'm not going to look down on how someone else decides to fill a Saturday. Work out, watch TV, play games, write poetry, learn Klingon, whatever floats your boat. We don't need to be maxing out our productivity at all hours of the day, and who would possibly want to, anyway?
Nor do I think that the fact that I spend my time on goal-oriented pursuits makes me special in any way. I'm an unpublished writer, could I possibly be any less interesting? Christ, who gives a shit, right? Produce something worth reading and then we'll talk, but until then I'm just another nameless guy with big ideas on the internet. This makes me about as unique as a Happy Meal.
But it is this guy in me who works on stuff that just can't comprehend investing so much time and energy into something as impersonal as a patch for an old game that has already well runs its course in the public consciousness. I understand that this kind of thing can appeal to a certain mindset--"there's something to fix and it is withing my power to fix it so let's fix that sonofabitch"--but instead of fixing something that has
nothing to do with me in the first place, I'd rather take that time and energy and try to create something new.
While breaking to relax with the occasional non-productive night of video games or drinking, naturally
Edit: for the record, to scale back the shadow of my VILLAINY here, I'm not talking about mods or the like that actually bring new content to an existing product. Designing fan missions makes perfect sense to me. Spending ages trying to update textures in ancient games, though? Uh, I'll let you handle that one, dude.

Ahhh, and therein lies the rub! This whole thread is about a mod that ADDS CONTENT. Great job fagging up said thread with your Koki-glasses viewpoint.
Stitch on 3/10/2009 at 01:18
I realize I may be splitting hairs here, but enabling existing content created by someone else is very different than working on a mod in which you are actually creatively bringing something to the table.
The former baffles me personally, at least in a time invested to goal achieved ratio sort of way. Cue dethtollian constipated huffing.
I do agree with you on one point, though: while your Koki comparison is entirely consistent with you other forum member comparisons--i.e. utterly bereft of merit BUT YOU'RE GONNA POST IT ANYWAY--I do concede that I'm fagging up this thread. An offhand comment has ballooned out of control, and this thread (and the mod) deserve better.
off to spend my friday night irresponsibly
