That's exactly the sort of attitude I'd expect from someone who can't even be bothered to spell out "please".

For once I agree with ZB.

Heh. As usual, the sarcasm fails to function thru da intarwebz. Going forward, I shall add "richness" to my text communication.
I just don't want to waste my "re-immersion" into KOTOR2. I haven't played it since it came out. Have been waiting very patiently for years for one of these reworks to actually be completed. :):)
I've been going past the Team Gizka forum semi-monthly for the past 4 years or so to keep up on progress there. And to see if it changes from the usual combination of apologists/trolls/those-who-think-modders-owe-them-something/those-who-are-now-"done-waiting"/etc. But it just gets worse and worse over there. :o:tsktsk:
TG seemed pretty serious about their project for the first 2 years. But it has turned into just another mod with big promises and not a lot of comprehension of the scope of their goals. The biggest issue is likely a lack of team management skills/motivation. Those are hard enough to find among people being paid.
And now we have this new restoration mod that comes almost out of nowhere. I'm looking for some opinions on it, hopefully from people who have completed the game with it.:weird:
You know, I think that in addition to emoticons that forums could enjoy added non-verbal cues thru the use of sound bites! General grunts and such. Yeah....

I shall try, poor substitute for Matthew that I am.
Aw, shucks.

Dashus is their only member. He currently is/was engaged in copious amount of teh sexxor with a new girlfriend. You can read about it (no, not teh sexxor, at least directly) on the gizka forum. They've supposedly been almost done for years, and they have made no announcement because fan teams are very bad at making announcements, especially when there's effectively nothing to announce- see their announcement which ended up being about a trailer proclaiming a summer 2008 release, except it was released after summer 2008 and showed only old stuff.
Exactly - that stunt left a bad taste in many people's mouths as it was preceded by a cryptic 'two weeks' message that led people to think that the mod's release was imminent - instead they got a year old trailer. Sadly Dashus is now using the 'done when it's done' line, so who knows when it'll finally see the light of day - it could be tomorrow, it could be three years from now.
See (
http://forums.team-gizka.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5400) Dashus' post for the scoop.

Less scope, less bugfixing, more focus probably sums it up.
Not really less scope, but certainly less bugfixing for now - TSLRP wanted to basically have one release that fixed every bug and glitch they could find in the game and the restored content; TSLRCM will be releasing updates as they find / fix patches, but have no plans to comb through and deal with every single bug or graphical glitch. AFAIK the RCM is restoring the vast majority of the content that TSLRP was going to/is going to do, except for one or two points like the Genoharadan (?) quest. That and a couple of other parts are being or have been restored as separate projects that will be compatible with the RCM, apparently.
RCM essentially combined the work that the three authors had already done into one big mod.
Aerothorn: that's not the same mod, it's another one with a similar name. (

In fact, people who love watching films or reading books: they wouldn't consider those activities as something that has absolutely nothing to do with them. Engaging with something, investing time and energy in it - how can you even think that that sort of activity can *ever* not have anything to do with the person doing it?
This thread was basically me shooting from the gut, and then progressively trying to define where I was coming from. As such, I wasn't very clear from the start and used some inflammatory language ("depressing") which resulted in people inaccurately (but understandably) thinking I was decrying all mods or suggesting that one's freetime should be MAXIMIZED at all times, both of which are ridiculous arguments. You've got to work and you've got to play, you know? I believe very strongly in the value of both.
The thing that hangs me up regarding this mod, however, is that it renders the people working on it translators and excavators, whose work can be judged successful the more invisible their personal imprint. The labor has everything to do with the people doing it, yes, but the result is the stitching together of someone else's aborted vision.
There are many reasons to engage in such a task, many of which are commendable. It is quite clearly more selfless than my creative endeavors. It is also far less personal.
And there is the issue I have with it. This isn't some mod with which the people working on it can blow off a little steam over the course of a weekend, it's months and months of work. There's a lot of enjoyment and personal satisfaction in there, I'm sure, but when it comes down to it we're ultimately looking at a mountain of man hours spent laboring away on this thing.
And you know what? Good on them. If that's how they want to spend their time, who am I to judge? It may not be explicitly creative, but it is a service that comes with a built-in audience that any new endeavor lacks.
But me? I'm not wired that way. I never have been. As a kid I was interesting in drawing my own characters. As a would-be musician I was interested in writing my own songs. And as a would-be writer now I'm interested in telling my own stories. If I'm going to put in the work, I want it to at least
in part reflect my creativity.
Does that make me any better than the translators and excavators? Of course not. But while I understand them
in theory--see above--I've got to admit that beyond appeasements to diplomacy I really don't. When it comes down to it I see time and work spiraling down and disappearing into a void for very little return--at least in regard to this project. I recognize that as unfair on my part, at least, but it is what I see.

*sigh* Just when the thread had gotten back on track. It's entirely subjective, nobody is right and nobody is wrong, can we please move on already?

This is my last post on this issue, but: if everyone was like you in this matter, there would be no performances ever of Shakespeare's
Macbeth or Mozart's
Requiem or Orff's
Carmina Burana. Don't you think that this might be a shame?

Hip. "Shooting from the hip." Unless you meant you were farting on the thread, which would I suppose also work.
