Ok, I'm a moron and a newbie... now that we've got that out of the way, I've got 3 of the 4 skulls... I'm missing Phol, but have no idea where to look... any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,dqs and welcome to the forum! Highlight here to find out where to get the missing skull:
Spoiler:
You need to go back into Lord Thumanite's warehouse and search the offices again. Look for a hallway with a watcher. Lord Thumanite's office is down there and so is the skull. By the way, lots of people have trouble finding some of the skulls, so don't feel bad. :)

Thanks! I couldn't find his office... finally did and there it was!

Well, I'm in the building of the spring/well/fountain and have found the secret "room" in the basement and obtained the skull of "Xil", I think that was the one. But the guard there had a key to a "secret compartment" that I wasn't able to find in there. Was that just a hint to the existence of the secret room in the basement? Thanks, gang.

Keep going, zonian. You'll figure out where you need it in awhile, you just haven't gotten there yet. :)

OK, I'm playing the combo "Shore Leave/Up Shit Creek" (there, now the search engine will find it by name) mission. First of all, I agree with all the posters elsewhere who say that "Up S*** Creek" is too dark. "Shore Leave" is fine on light levels but certain areas of "Up S*** Creek" are too dark. In addition to the area I'm having trouble with below, the area where the burricks hang out and there are wooden platforms overhead you must get to is too dark.
Now, on to the question:

Spoiler:
I got out "from the frying pan into the fire" (e.g. used the teleporter to the second part of the level). I've reached an area where there's a room with a sign in the middle with five squares on it. I then made my way across the lava, found the Temple, found the room that accepts the "snake head" objects, and then from there, made my way through darkness to a razor-thin bridge across lava, across more darkness to a room with one of the snake heads. I got that snake head and returned to the room that accepts them and "put the snake head" in place. Now, the sign in the middle of the earlier room shows a blue dot on the "upper left" square. What do I do next? (I haven't been able to find a way to get any more snake heads or across to other areas.)

THANKS!!! By the way, except for the excess of darkness, these are really fun, expansive missions.

Spoiler:
You need to be in the area of the obelisk with the light on it to find two more of the heads. Climb up on the walls and look for an opening with flies buzzing in it and then go look for a girder stretching over the lava. Those will both get you snake heads, then go back to where you placed the other two and put them in the proper spots. That will get you access to an item you need to get the last one. It is VITAL in this mission that you read all the notes lying around. They are what guide you through what you have to do.

Does the level become brighter if you turn the gamma setting up in the video options in thief 2, or is the gamma setting wacked up as far as it will go.

Belboz:
Gamma was at max. (Haven't gotten around to trying the hint yet, so I haven't tried it again today.)
I am using a Radeon VE that I recently purchased for Max Payne with an ancient (Super-VGA, max 800x600 resolution) display. (Max Payne also had a couple darkness problems, too. However, most Thief/Thief 2 levels I've played haven't been this dark. Other game engines, especially Quake III (I tested with Star Trek Voyager Elite Force) don't seem to have a problem with that card.)

I tried (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20488&p=259287&viewfull=1#post259287) the hints Thursday night and the hints allowed me to get past where I was stuck and complete the level. I also learned that the light levels are not a problem - the light levels in the room where my computer is ARE. With no lights on and dusk outside, I could see the areas I had been cruising (around the obelisk area) backgrounds OK.
It's only when I have the overhead light on that I can't see anything anymore.
Anyway, I now have to say both levels, while being somewhat challenging are very good, expansive levels. I am impressed!
