It's actually really easy to get and not very close to all those nasty mech things. It's just a tiny secret, anyways. :) If you get tired of looking, send me an e-mail and I'll tell you where it is. I think I have a screenshot, too.

Hmmmm......I've managed to rid myself of everything except one auto-spider. I haven't given up yet, but I hope the secret isn't that crate that opens with some goodies inside, because I got that early on. Is the mechanist warehouse a combination of rooms, or is it strictly the one room with the beasties and all the dead thief comrades lying around ?
btw....whats the proper sequence regarding the submarine. I "tried" to stowaway on the ship, but nothing happens. Apparently, Garret is supposed to squeeze into one of the crates. I guess the ship then takes off, but hits something, gets cut in half, sinks, and Garret escapes to the submarine. From the submarine he uses the teleporter. I went the other way around. I teleported to the submarine, then swam over to the sunken ship, but there was nothing there to do, so back I went to the teleporter. But this sequence won't work if you don't have the coins that operate the teleporter, and you stowaway on the ship, then get marooned in the sub. Something isn't adding up properly.
Forgetting all that, I still don't know how to end this level. Once the secret is found, I've run out of things to do. Where's the exit?

I found the secret....grrrr. I was looking there a few times but kept getting distracted.
Now my loot total is something like 4200, and I don't know where to go to end the level....I'm thinking I'm missing something as it pertains to the ship. Since I've been to the sub and back (there was nothing in cargo bay #5, btw)....I seem to recall an actual level in the game where Garret had to hide himself in a crate. By closing the door, the mission ended. Hmmmmmm........

You're on the right track. There's a reason you had to find the key for Cargo Bay 5!

Is this one just supposed to end, kinda mid-stream? Like after you frob a certain sign and a door opens. That took me by surprise, and I was roughly 900 short on loot !!
Now I have to back-track to see where I missed all the missing goodies. One thing I noticed was a place just past the room with all the red barrels where you can swim down, but painfully slow, then get stuck trying to get through a lateral passageway (like those grates in shoreleave). Is this worth pursuing?
Also, in the very end section, there is a depression by a mine entrance that you can peek through and kill a spider, but it apparently is not accessable. How about that other door near the mine entrance. Plus, is it possible to get into where the mech-guard is patrolling?
Maybe the red barrels need to be exploded.
I really can't go further back than the waterfall, so if I missed something from before, then I'll have to re-load.
Finally, is "Making Tracks" the continuation of this FM? It's labelled as such, but I want to make sure there isn't anything inbetween.

Making Tracks is the next mission in this series and yes, Up Sh*t Creek does end after you frob the sign and enter that door. There are a couple of ways up out of the underground area. You probably should go back and explore that part. You may find some of your missing loot. There are some nuggets, etc. lying around some tracks, if I remember correctly. :)

Well....boy did I miss a good chunk of exploratory territory. But after all that missing yardage, I still came about 500 short of max.
Is there any way back before the waterfall? If not, then I'm going to not bother with the remaining loot and go on to Making Tracks.
Norman Druart on 8/10/2002 at 21:09
But did you encounter the talking fish?
Clock on 8/10/2002 at 21:19
Yes....and he was very annoying :)
Actually, that was the route I had discovered first to the exit.
I noticed that once you jump into the water that takes you over the waterfall, there is a ledge on the other side. I can't shoot rope arrows and climb up because I'm always in the water. I thought that maybe that's what the red barrels are for, but getting them into position is impossible. My idea was to climb on top of the barrels and shoot a rope arrow, climb up, and hopefully find tons of loot.
My question now is: how do you get to that ledge ??
Clock on 9/10/2002 at 17:20
I'm still not finding my way to that ledge on the other side of the waterfall. Is it unreachable? I've tried moving a bunch of red barrels to just below the ledge, but the water current is too strong. I need to get out of the water in order to shoot a rope arrow and climb up. This, of course, would all be pointless if we were never meant to be up there anyway. Perhaps access is from the grassy viney open area that you can climb to just a wee bit further down the water flow.
