I think that's the whole point of the mission. It's very open, and you can choose what you do and when you do it. You don't actually HAVE to do most of the stuff you did, you just decided to. There's no loot objective, so if you wanted to skip all that and go straight to the waterfront, that would be your choice. I thought it was very well thought out. It's quite different from the shopping list of objectives you usually get and rather refreshing. IMHO only, of course.

Nightwalker, I see your point. I think I've finally figured out what it was that bothered me and how to say it more clearly.
As I was playing the mission I kept finding new areas to explore. That's not a bad thing at all but after a while I kept asking myself "Is it time to go to the end of the mission now, or are there some areas that I've missed?" I kept answering that question "Let's not end it yet because there may be places that I've missed and I don't want to miss anything." So I couldn't force myself to end the mission (I still haven't) and I just kept running around for more places. Of course after a while I couldn't find more places but I still had the nagging feeling that I'd missed something.
So I guess for me a list of objectives serves to tell me that I've been to most (maybe not all, but most) of places in the mission. Most mission designers seem to design their missions that way. I guess I've come to rely on the objectives to tell me when it's time to end the mission (find the exit).
Without that I'm just running around trying to make sure I haven't missed anything. I'm still running around in this one.
Did that make sense? Anyone else feel this way?

You're explanation made sense and I can see how you could feel that way. Personally, it didn't bother me at all. I quite liked the feeling that I could do what I wanted when I wanted. We're all entitled to our own opinions. :)

Its an experiment to see if people bother to work things out via the scattered clues rather than a list of objective, or thou when you finish it should list all the objectives that were available and that you could do, depending on what difficulty level you choose to do it at.
The boat doesn't change physically because you cant change terrain brushes in game with thief, it just gets a name change and some other things.

I'm having a great time with this one -- there's many ways to go about things, and it's good for a couple of hours' worth of wandering around, just taking in the world. Up Shit Creek, on the other hand... ;) No, really, I'm in the middle of that one for the second time and enjoying it as well.

You'd better believe it, man...Starfox already did a
preview, and I'm to do the
review when it's released on Sept 4th (we got a pre-release beta). Beyond that, it's the Heart of Evil preview (Wadey and I are going to sink that one like the Titanic, in a literary way...two nutcases, one mod. Take no prisoners! :)), and then a few blessedly slow days at the Hangar. :)
Otherwise, I believe I can definitely do some of those Thief 2 reviews for you...I'll e-mail you with some procedural questions, specifics on screenshots, etc...if my e-mail's working tonight. If not, then tomorrow!

My only complaint with this series is the same I've had with all the other releases of the past few weeks:
IT'S TOO FRIGGIN DARK!
Yes, I KNOW it's supposed to be dark to be realistic & all but when I gets to the point when I can't see #_(*!! with the gamma cranked all the way up and have no idea which way I'm running or if I'm even facing straight ahead it gets kinda annoying. It also makes it VERY difficult to see things in a given room that need to be seen. I really wish FM builders would realize that there are alot of card/monitor combinations out there, some darker than others, and would use the standard Ambient 20 setting so the player could adjust the gamma how he/she likes it for playability and realism. Anyway, here's where I'm stuck:

Hello, Metalhead! Thanks again for Bloodsport. :)
Up Shit Creek:
Spoiler:
If you are where I think you are, there's a hole in the ceiling with a wooden beam across it. You can use the rope arrow to get out. If your display is dark, it's probably hard to see, but it's there.

I'm surprised to hear you found it dark, Metalhead. I've found it well lit all the way through, with no problems seeing anywhere, even inside pipes, etc.
Spitter on 31/8/2001 at 15:41
Metalhead, it's in your default gamma settings. Try to raise your gamma in Windows.
This is why everyone finds Bloodsport to be too bright, even though you find it to be just fine for your monitor/video card combo :o
Metalhead on 31/8/2001 at 19:45
Already tried adjusting gamma in windows, running T2 just resets it. And yes, it is just my mintor/card combination, but I don't see what's wrong with the standard ambient 20 setting, since I've never hear of of someone not being able to adjust their gamma LOW enough.
