That Agalloch song would be infinitely better without the cookie monster vocals. The instrumentation is great and I really dig the vibe, but as soon as he starts singing it kills the vibe for me.

I admit that growling vox isn't for everyone but I'm really getting goddamned tired of the phrase "cookie monster vocals" and I'm really getting goddamned tired of the concept that growling vocals are a bad thing. Yes they're an acquired taste but that doesn't automatically make it bad.

I think about it sonically: screaming like that is like distorting the signal of a guitar so much that it just becomes messy. Its more about the distortion than the note underneath it.

If you fags think that the vocals in that are "screaming" I'm going to have to put some real screaming vocals on there.
And can I just say, and who is with me on this, that Spotify is 27 different types of awesome.

I awake this morning to see that the playlist has expanded exponentially, including no less than 14 songs about anal gay sex.
Well, I guess it just wouldnt be TTLG any other way.

So, what exactly is spotify for the unhip and lazy? Interactive community muxtape?
henke on 10/1/2010 at 09:31
When it comes to aquiring music digitally, Spotify is the greatest invention since Napster. It's a music-streaming service. You can listen to entire albums/discographies on it for free, legally, but with 30sec commercials every 3-4 songs. But it's only available in a handful of European countries, for now. The mixtape part of it goes no further than that you can make playlists, send them to friends, post them online, or make them collaborative so anyone can add to em.
Collaborative Playlists usually work great in a small circle of friends but big community playlists like this have a tendency of turning into anarchy.
