tip: you can obtain unlimited money and lockpicks (max 30) in the hall of heroes: possess machine/pick up lockpick, leave the hall, come back: all respawned.
Charge up your salts at the free salt machine. Boring but works and helps in 1999 mode; I stumbled upon it because I went back to fill up on free salts and buy stuff at the machine. Did not find another spot for it.
After 2nd playthrough on 1999 mode I will - IF - I ever play the game again play on normal. There is no "challenge" in having to headshot an unarmored guy 4 times instead of 1.
Another thing that bothered me is the randomized gear upgrades. It was OK in dishonored for the charms since they do not play a big role but in BI you can actually do a special build by combining certain gear. But not possible when it is random. e.g. Getting the 50% vs. handyman in the last level is rather useless.

On the bright side though, equipment is rolled on pickup rather then on level load, so it's much easier to save scum for a particular piece of gear then it was in Dishonored.

I'm surprised that noone has mentioned that half of the time in this game is spent picking up loose coins and checking barrels for stuff. Doesn't that annoy anyone? I said - no! I'm no going to waste my precious time OCDing around, what is this - a first person mario game? I rather spend time with my wife and kids (behhhehe). And then 30min later, when the first fighting started, turned out I wasn't able to fight at all cos I didn't have any salts or something? Uninstall. 60 usd well saved.

I have to give zajazd credit. Every single one of his posts seems to be perfectly crafted to irritate the shit out of everyone.

And yet everyone keeps responding.

Finally sitting down to play it.
Was I supposed to laugh at the part where everything goes to hell? Because I had to pause the goddamn game to regain my composure there. Also couldn't stop laughing at the bits at the beginning with everyone worshipping the founding fathers.

Ugh, so fuck 1999 difficulty. My problem with it isn't that it makes it harder, it just does it in a stupid way that adds nothing to the game. Having to shoot someone in the face 5 times with a pistol isn't how the difficulty in this kind of game is supposed to work. So fuck it, I'm restarting on normal even if it means losing 2-3 hours of game time.

Also, this probably has been observed/is patently obvious, but that's not how difficulty was done in "1999". Not in any games I can recall at least. The model was to make the PC more frail+vulnerable and/or supply more advanced AI, as opposed to making enemies beefier.

No, 1999 games were pretty dumb like that.
