There's a definite lack of character development but I wouldn't take Emily as an example. I personally liked the fact that you did in fact rescue Emily straight off: I was expecting not to find her, having to chase her captors for half of the game like any other video game would do. Nope! Bam, mission accomplished. After that, although she's not pivotal to the plot
of the following missions, she's still an empress-to-be and the game conveyed clearly how important she was. And her character was rather fleshed-out through interactions with Callista and even more through the girl's drawings and attitude that depend on how you play the game.
The character who disappointed me most was Anton Sokolov. I would have liked him to play a more important role after being kidnapped and I felt cheated that I couldn't talk to him after Lady Boyle's Last Party. He's just a tool to advance the plot although he could have been an amazing charcter. The game is slightly too short in that regard.
Even so, to have kept her in an unlocked and unguarded room just seemed a little strange. I wasn't even looking for her and I just wandered in, then wandered back out again without any trouble. Ok, I had to get the key for the back door, but that was in the room just below where she was. Compared to the brothel mission in TX2 it just felt, well, short.
I agree with you on Sokolov. He was (mostly) responsible for all the fantastic steampunk devices and artistic to boot, yet he's brushed into a corner and only really pops up again when you return to the Hound Pits after being betrayed, and even then he's short changed regarding his involvement/interaction.On a side note, does Piero's Door to Nowhere do anything or is it just an INSERT DLC HERE bookmark?

I think it was just a nod to Portal/Valve

Where is this door?

Piero's workshop at the top of the steps. It's just a bricked-up frame with a splash of black paint on it in a portal shape. You can see the opposite side of the wall with the same mark if you climb up the alley.

I hereby give this game a "Shall we gather for whiskey and cigars tonight?" rating.
The European style ripoff buildings were pretty awesome. River krusts, not so much (high damage + range + rate of fire + hard to spot due to their colour = dead dead dead dead okay, there they are and... fuck, there are others? :p).

I think it deserves a "Must have been rats" rating. :)
Also, with the river krusts, at least there's an enemy you can legitimately use your grenades on. Also, I'm on my second playthrough in the Flooded District, but I only now realised that they drop loot. *primes grenade with a wicked grin*

I know I'm in the minority here but I actually liked the River Krusts. Since I was doing a mostly non-lethal run, it was nice to be able to get the crossbow out for a bit of FPS twitch action.

I hated them but was entertained to find that you could possess them (not that it did much good!)

That never occurred to me. Must be a depressing experience for poor Corvo. :laff:

I don't know if killing them counts against the Clean Hands achievement so I ignored them, but man those things are a real pain in the ass, especially in the old Dunwall sewer near that rune. I ended-up not taking it because I'd die as soon as I stepped in the light.
The only thing I found disappointing was the last mission, way too short and too easy (even on Very Hard). But other than that, I'll give this game a "Indeed, I believe so" rating. :D
