Or maybe difficulty level...I was playing on Very Hard.

Yeah, I thought it was hilarious that one of the
Pendelton twins was in the
steam room with his full victorian regalia on.
Seemed to me like
they were done and he was just getting a post-coital hand massage.
The second mission
was very short. I did the non-lethal version but I still KO'd the brothers and stole their money.I'm also playing it on Very Hard, and it's not.

It does get a little more challenging later on, but really...it's a fairly easy game. What's weird is that it isn't stupid AI or simplistic level design that's the problem. Dishonored is easily as complicated and clever as Thief on that front. The biggest problem is Corvo is so quick and agile, anything that gave you a problem in Thief is only a minor obstacle here. Garrett feels like an arthritic octogenarian in comparison.
I have a feeling my blinkless playthrough on very hard is going to be considerably more difficult.

6 hours in, first mission done. And I didn't even explore everything, never even went down to the kennels. So far, so good.

Yeah they really needed better equipped foes to deal with. Like guards in plate armor with crossbows. Or an equivalent to Thief 2's bots that are nigh invulnerable to anything but a stealth attack. Those
assassins in the flooded district were pretty damn cool though.
I'm going through a second time as a murderous bastard. I love how leaving dead bodies around attracts swarms of rats. They did a good job on this chaos thing.

Those rats are damn frightening, really. Probably the most disturbing part of the game.

Yes, but the fact that they were taken straight from Batman Arkham Asylum (Scarecrow design) made them a little less cool in my eyes. Dishonored felt like mix of Thief, Deus Ex, Bioshock, Arkham Asylum, Half-Life 2. I don't mind but some things are straight copies, like main menu sound is same as HL2 main menu sound. Area blocking metal walls are same as in HL2. Reading materials background sound is same as in Thief. Dream sequences are copied from Arkham Asylum. Copied things list goes on and on. But my verdict is: Dishonored is best action/stealth game since Arkham Asylum.

I'm glad to see that, so far, no one has voted for "hated it".
I really like Dishonored, despite it having many flaws and valid criticisms.
There are many things that could be improved, and I wish that shadows were part of the stealth mechanic, but there are no major core flaws to the game, assuming you accept the blink mechanic. You could play the game without it, but as far as I'm concerned, you either accept blink or just disregard the game.
Regardless, I'm assuming that the blink mechanic made it very difficult for the developers to balance the game's difficulty. I think it's widely considered that this game is too easy, even on the hardest difficulty level. The fact that shadows aren't really part of the stealth mechanic might disappoint people, but in terms of recent games in this genre, I really like Dishonored.
IMO, like Deus Ex Human Revolution, Dishonord has been the most respectful game to the LGS / Deus Ex legacy since Deus Ex Human Revolution.

Yeah, I will say they are a bit heavy handed on the City 17 stuff. The guards with the masks look like The Combine, the metal vise walls, the security booths, the citywide announcements, European style buildings, etc etc etc.
