Harvey Smith (
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=20301) revealed at AGDC two of the next projects that Arkane Studios is working on:
Quote:
At Harvey Smith’s keynote at the AGDC's Game Career Summit, the former Ion Storm and Midway designer revealed that Arkane Austin is working on both an "immersive first-person RPG" and an iPhone casual strategy title at the Texas developer.
The Austin studio is the U.S. division of French developer Arkane, founded in 1999 and is particularly known for Dark Messiah Of Might & Magic and Arx Fatalis. Its only announced upcoming game is The Crossing, in association with Valve.
As part of the talk, which Gamasutra will write up in full at a later date, Smith noted that "Arkane as a company is very focused on immersive first-person experiences," and specifically commented on his core design tenets: “My focus is very much around games like Deus Ex," Smith noted.
In addition to his work on the core project at Arkane Austin, Smith has a side project, a "casual strategy game" for the iPhone. The game is apparently significantly into development, but has no concrete deals announced.
Talking to Gamasutra after his keynote, Smith mentioned that he was particularly happy in getting back to the kinds of experiences that he helped to design with titles such as Deus Ex and Thief: Deadly Shadows.

Putting aside the fact that Harvey Smith is a total douche bag and hardly the best creative lead nor project director...
Arkane seems like the perfect fit for one of the driving forces behind the DX series.

It's good that Harvey is back and now finally works at a company where he can put his expertise to good use.
He might have fucked up DXIW completely, but that's more to blame due to 1) his inexperience as project director, 2) a completely broken technology, that also had to run on the Crapbox as well.
I'm more comfortable knowing that Arkane knows it's shit, and that they're using the SourceEngine now. I'm looking forward to both the Crossplayer and Harvey's project.

Don't be a hater/PC elitist. The Xbox is/was one of the greatest consoles ever created, and by FAR the most powerful of the last gen.

Yeah, but it doesn't change the fact that the combination of crappy tech and the xbox hardware limitations resulted in DX:IW and TDS being neutered.

At best games on the xbox had better graphics. Originality and content was on the ps2.
I'm trying not to sound like a fanboi, but I do think I made a horrible mistake in trading in my ps2 for an xbox. I had, what I considered, the best games available for it, but it left a bitter taste when I thought of what I'd lost.

The Xbox was an outdated PC turned on its side. All its best games were also on another platform.
Not counting PC gaming, PS2 won that round.

It finished what the Dreamcast started to do...bring PC games into the living room. I thought it was a brilliant move. I don;t care who 'won' the last-gen, I just think it was a great console (mine is 5-6 years old and still problem-free. PS2's hardware is junk just like the 360) w/great support and a great library. It also revolutionized online gaming on consoles. XBOX Live! is one of the greatest features for a system in recent memory.

The PS2 may have won the last round, but the Dreamcast/Xbox were my favorite last-gen systems by a mile.

Should we rename this thread, hey let's argue about consoles?
I wish there was more to talk about concerning what's going on over at arkane. Or at least, more that I could talk about...
