This looks like it might, possibly, genuinely be the updated UFO/X-COM that people have been waiting for all these years. Unless it sucks. But hopefully it doesn't :)

(Old hat, strictly speaking, but not exactly prominent, and the release date is now just around the corner! :)
The screenshots make me happy. I look forward to retail reviews and a demo.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'd forgotten about this one!
The only thing that keeps me from playing the first X-Com more is the clunky interface when it comes to buying/selling goods and soldier management (the renaming, GOD the interminable renaming!). Hopefully they've rectified this, or tweaked it at the very least.
From the rpgdot.com preview it appears that we'll have two geoscapes to play around with (Earth and the human-colonized world of Esperansa), several more kinds of maps (hospitals, mines, etc. instead of just a series of barns), police to go along with the civilians and alien cruisers that will guard landed Battleships and attack transports that come near :thumb:
They've implemented a lot of other stuff, but those are the things that immediately caught my eye. They've left it turn-based, which is smart, and now I'm giddily awaiting a demo and reviews to see if it's a worthy successor to X-Com. If they can nail that X-Com vibe it could be a surprise hit.

NECROMANCY.
I am playing this again. It isn't *stellar*, but it is scratching the XCOM itch until Firaxis' game comes out.
I am enjoying it a lot still. So much so, that I wondered if they were doing a sequel. It turns out
(http://www.ufo2extraterrestrials.com/all-the-news/) THEY ARE.
Any love for this game, or is it too attenuated by the excitement about the (arguably amazing-looking) Firaxis game?

I disliked it enough that I took it to a charity shop on the day that I bought it. That's all I remember.

I think i've played most XCom clones and this one appeared to be great at first but i was disappointed by it, you can tell they really wanted to make something that lived up to the original XCom but i ended up having way more fun installing and replaying the original instead.
The clones i've enjoyed the most were UFO: Aftershock (With the Weapons rebalance mod) and UFO: Afterlight (With the Total rebalance mod). With the mods they became really awesome games that kept me playing for ages. :)

Well then, based on the available evidence, it would appear that I'm a real glutton for punishment. Perhaps it helps that the Gold version of the game includes a lot of the mods which were popular for it.
