I recall seeing some YouTube video where the player absolutely slaughtered dozens of zombies (Bonehoard I think?). He just walked up and unleashed hell with holy water and his bow, like Rambo.
Not too thiefy, but it was pretty epic. :D

Hmm...bonehoards pretty hard to kill ALL the zombies, specially when my water arrows are in limited supply. Killing fire shadows takes way too long for the arrows. I just lure them to that fire bolt trap and let that kill them...it's the only way for me to clean the entire bonehoard from zombies without wasting water arrows =)
For fighting, the space given to you to fight the guards/skeletons/haunts are pretty much spaced out. There's only 1 technique for me and it works ( I killed the entire army from Broken Heart FM by doing this without taking a hit):
Have the entire army following behind you. While running, charge for overhead, jump, turn 180 degrees, slash, and turn 180 degrees back and repeat. This only works for haunts and athlete AIs that are as fast as Garrett. Hammerites and guards....they are a bit trickier, but do the same thing but backpedal. It helps to lean forward when attacking the slow AIs as they are not yet in their "aggro" parameters. Don't do this for fast AIs as they are right behind you, and the first thing they catch up to you can be a sword swing. Even in cramped spaces like the Cregsleft Prison, I managed to kill every Hammerite following me doing this without taking a hit =D. Another important note is that if you are flanked from both sides and you know you can't MOVE becuse of cramped space, crouch. This eliminates/nullifies SOME attacks from guards and possibly hammers. Only do this with when you're surrounded and there's no chance of edging away out of the crowd (like a narrow hallway and both ends are really mad guards running after you). Remember to focus on one guard at a time so they decrease in numbers and raise your chance of survival exponentially. There's also this funny trait that hammers do: if you run into him and keep running into him, he might backstep (same for archers). Take this time to crack his skull.
If the fight is a one on one, you might start approaching the enemy by blocking, in case the first thing the guard goes when in aggro range is a sword slash. Go behind him and hack away. Non-guard AIs are smarter and just turn around as opposed to the Guard's "fight dance". This is countered by circle strafing
Sly's arena 1....I really can't take on all the guards because of the archers...but the way to kill them is just stand still and let the guards come to you since your always in complete darkness (moving with sword will make you visible)...and for arena 2...there's that space behind the stairs...
Taking down archers can be a nuisance...since they are hard to dodge. My method only dodges 1 archer without getting hit and able to overhead slam the taffer:
Basically strafe left and right at all times perpendicular to the archer and time when he is going to release his arrow. Archer AI is based off ballistics so when you move right and he fires an arrow, the arrow will be aimed slightly right of you. Strafing left and right just creates a passive effect of the arrows being aimed left or right of you. So when he fires the arrow, and you're moving right, move to the left. To get into attack stance, stay around 3 meters away from him;too close and the angle will be too small for you to dodge and too far will be hard for your frontal attack When that arrow flies to the side, run straight at him with an overhead shot (lean if need be). Hopefully he flinches...then he's done for :ebil:
Thief AI is stupid, and will loyally follow the same patterns of fighting styles no matter what...so exploit that. This does not apply to real life( durr) I only wish the arrows from archers can be grabbed from the air if your reflexes are fast enough...like they highlight when they get too close to you and just "frob" em XD

jtr7, I might have taken your comments the wrong way, all i'm saying is, i make no firm distinction between canon and the way i play. I think such an opposition is unintelligible.
If the widow mission was finished on expert difficulty, Garrett's standards demanded that you take 90% of all the loot, and the widow's "survival money" made up 12%. I guess someone didn't finish on expert :sly: .
His swings get harder if you move with it huh? Like real footwork! Man, this thief game keeps getting better.

I reject the idea that Garrett is a pacifist that doesn't kill out of some kind of moral obligation. I'm a ghoster, and when I play I leave the guards, Hammers, mechanists, and what have you well enough alone. Why? Because Garrett is a realist. He knows the score, the more you kill the more you'll be hunted. It doesn't matter how artistic a sneak he is, he can not hide from reality. What can a master sneak do with all of his ill-gotten money if everyone in the city hates him and no one will deal with him?
Garrett possesses the ability to murder at a rate that the city has not seen before. Maybe he can't go on a Trickster/Gamall style rampage, but he's more sinister. Slow, one by one in the night, he could bring the City to its knees. But what would that serve him? Nothing. This is why he doesn't kill. Garrett is a practical man to the very end.
As for technique? Well... go play Thievery non-stop for a few years. Guards in Thief will become a bit of a joke. I don't care how many are in the room, I'll drop them all with out tools. It's just a matter of getting behind them, which is a particularly easy task.
Even Haunts aren't that bad... but I respect numbers when facing those. One at a time with them. Two and you're hurting. Three, well, it's a good thing I'm so good at sneaking.

Most taffers do. :thumb:
He's proud to be THE unparalleled Master Thief, but what he's taking from people isn't the life from their flesh, but he doesn't dwell on what happens to the wrecked lives he's left behind.

Opposition? Man, we're on
totally different pages.:o I'll comment no further on this here.

Methinks someone is newer to Thief, and is still stuck in FPShooter/GTA mode. Perhaps he has yet to revel in the glory of knowing you can kill someone, but you don't need to because you are just that damn good.
(Pure speculation based on his sign up date).

As long as the enemy is melee only, you can win against a nigh-infinite amount of enemies in a large area.
Lure your targets to said area, and run around in circles so that your sword hand is on their side. They will try to intercept you, but because they pause to swing, they will always be slightly behind you as well, creating the effect that you are running circles around a big group of enemies.
When you go for the attack, don't stop moving, just aim a little closer inwards and swing, then return to your circle course and keep moving.
It takes awhile, but I've taken out groups of four or more haunts like this, sword only.
