Go to the elderscrolls forum and read the complaints of people who have 2+ ghz processors who get 5 FPS in the game. The minimum system requirements for that game are a 500 mhz cpu and the recommended are 800 mhz cpu. So, there is no reason why people with 2 ghz processors in their system should be suffering from lousy FPS, stuttering, and the all too often CTD. We're not talking about a shitty rig, but a shitty product in Morrowind.
Anyone ever hear of occlusion? In video terms it means when one object is blocking another from view. Morrowind's main problem was the lack of occlusion detection. Say you were looking at a house - it would make sense that objects behind the house are likely to be blocked from your sight (except things like tall trees etc.). Everything inside the house is blocked from your sight also. Morrowind's game engine didn't take this into consideration - everything in your line of sight was sent to the video card to be drawn. The video card itself had to do the occlusion detection to decide what you could actually see. That's why Morrowind ran poorly on machines of the time.
Oblivion has slowdowns but it performs better on my current system than Morrowind did on the system I had when I first got it.
As for stealth. Oblivion is better than many other games but not quite Thief class. The stealth indicator tells you if you are currently able to be seen by someone but doesn't indicate how good a particular location is for hiding. If the shadows are good enough, and your skill level high enough, you can walk straight up in front of someone and initiate a sneak attack. I suspect the game could be modified to be a decent Thief game though.

I have no idea if that's true or not. It wouldn't change the fact that it was a shitty product with system requirements that were bold-faced lies. Like all things though this has been debated on the elderscrolls forum and the last I heard was that it wasn't true - the game only draws what is visible. :p

That's a pretty vague statement.
That can mean something as simple as "frustrum culling" which is not drawing stuff outside the field of view of the game camera. That's extremely basic and no where near enough opmitisation by todays standard.
It's not as simple as "just drawing only what's visible", there are different techniques for doing this, and if they chose one that was inneficient, or ill-suted to the game, then they're at fault.

If you want to argue, the least you could do is not be completely wrong with your facts.

Whatever it is the game engine does or does not do doesn't much matter; the point is it runs like ass. Most 3D titles are considered "playable" at 25-30 FPS. People on the elderscrolls forums are happy if they get consistent 14 FPS. In Balmora, 5 FPS, which is as low as the FPS counter goes, is a given for most people. And don't save outside in Balmora if it's raining - on loading that save the game WILL crash, or just freeze up. Then you have the fun of watching the game take 5 minutes to load back up. :tsktsk:

And you can try reading the goddamn thread before posting just any ol' shit that comes out your skull. The system requirements I was referring to were Morrowind's, not Oblivion's.

Nice edit of your original post. You know, how you said I was "completely and stupidly wrong". No retraction or apology on your edit either despite how wrong you were. Guess it takes a jerk to know one.

Calm down people!

You start off by bashing Bethesda in a grossly impolite manner. You obviously didn't like Morrowind, which does make me wonder why you bought (I'm assuming you did) Oblivion, as it's the same kind of game.
Are you suprised a true fan of TES takes exception at your comments?
Then you pass off an opinion (and an offensive one at that) as a fact.
There is more to a PC than a CPU. The weakest link in the chain theory, remember?
I don't suppose you are any relation to JoeBob?
When someone finally did object, they were probably a little heated. They probably reconsidered later, and so came back and toned it down a little. Try it. :)
Anyway, next to what you've said, an apology from Komag would be inapropriate.
On a side note, if you don't like buggy engines, STAY AWAY FROM THE EDITORS GUILD!

Wow! As if I didn't expect one of his board buddies to defend him. Though, you seem to have a strong concept of a "troll" because you pointedly take me out of context and then deride me for it, then make a quip about preparing to be flamed. Yea, like I said to Komag - takes one, to know one.
