Waiiiit... When did Artemis die?

We don't see it happen, but it's before the scene where Gamall kills Orland. She's in Artemus' skin, and before Orland comes around the corner and begins to apologise to Garrett, telling him he was right, and instructing him to follow through with activating the Final Glyph (which is why he's killed right there), Garrett asks "Artemus" what's wrong with him, knowing something is up.
He wasn't there at the Keeper Compound when Gamall was revealed after Lauryl was released from her imprisonment to this plane, so he didn't have any first-hand experience.
The cutscene came after Garrett went to Wieldstrom and when he had all the artifacts. Gamall showed up, disguised as the Keeper Garrett trusted the most, and asked for the Artifacts. Orland interrupted. Well, if you remember, Garrett expected to see Gamall at the Museum, and expected a race to get the Artifacts. She wasn't there. What was she doing? Killing Artemus and taking his skin. Good ol' Artemus bought Garrett the time he needed to acquire all the Sentients with his life.
From KCArtemus: "... At last, I may have learned something of the one who lies dormant [Gamall]. My investigation may take several days, and I must leave without permission. Will I be the next to be accused of treachery? It hardly matters. I do not even bring my robes and my ring with me, for fear that if I die, our secrets may be compromised."
de10: "I’ve got a headline for tomorrow’s crime report: ‘Museum not thief-proof after all. Thief nabs everything worth having at Wieldstrom.’ Turns out Gamall wasn’t there – I’d like to know what she’s been doing all night. In any case, all 5 artifacts are in my hands. Now to rendezvous with Artemus at the Stonemarket Plaza. It’s time to find out the truth, once and for all."
He finds out the truth, all right. And how did Gamall know Garrett was to meet up with Artemus, if she didn't get that information from him directly before killing him--unless she wrote the note for Garrett.
