I recently made 2 upgrades to my computer, one an LCD monitor, the other a new hard drive. I find I can no longer read the maps in FMs. They look very bad and very grainy, as if spray painted on coarse sand. Also some pictures that hand on walls look terribly moth eaten. Changing screen resolution does not change anything. This happens in every one of the FMs, so it seems to be maybe a corrupt file or maybe a missing file in the Thief 2 folder. I haven't tried T1 or the original TTLG games, yet. Everything else, including scripts, notes, nameplates, etc., show up perfectly. Only when I try to read a map. Any help here would be appreciated.

Have you tried a fresh install?
Can you post a screenshot of the problem?

I can take a screen shot, but how do I get it into a reply like this one?

You need somewhere to host your screenshot - (
http://www.imageshack.us/) Imageshack is a good one. Just upload it, then paste it in image tags - click the
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif button when you are composing your message and stick the URL in the little box that pops up, that's the easiest way.
Please also remember that screenshots should be a maximum of 640 x 480 pixels in size.

Hm it looks like a colour pallette problem.
So ONLY maps and ONLY some paintings?
That's a really random assortment of textures. If it was a hardware or driver problem it should affect them all... oh wait, in Thief, some textures are 8 bit and some are 16... hm.
Wait, you didn't upgrade your video card, right?
I'm willing to bet something else happened during your upgrade. I bet if you delete Thief entirely, re-install it, and update your graphics drivers, theres a good chance the problem will go away.

I recently updated my video card driver, but I am pretty sure I had the problem before that. I just reloaded Thief 2 again, without deleting the first. I chose to save the subfolders. When I then started Thief 2 I still had the splash screen from Calendra's Legacy and also still had the map problem. I will take your advice and uninstall Thief 2 entirely and then reinstall. Will get back to you all after I have done that. Thanks very much for help so far.

I uninstalled then reinstalled Thief 2. It worked fine and I could again read maps. I then moved all the folders from FMs I had set aside back into the Thief 2 directory. Not the root files, such as convict.osm. When I started Thief 2 again I was back to the Calendra's Legacy startup screen and again could no longer read maps. Evidently the culprit is in a folder generated, or edited, by CL. I started over again with the uninstall-install, and Thief 2 is again back to normal. I will not again move those folders back into the Thief 2 directory, rather let them generate as I replay the FMs, except for Calendra's Legacy.

What are you doing manually copying FM folders and files instead of using DarkLoader??
You deserve what you get.
