Just out of curiosity, I am wondering if anyone has any clue what the plotline in T2 was supposed to be where the Sheriff is murdered.
NOT including the T2X explaination (which was great, btw. :)). I have played all three Thief games now and I have not figured out how that was intended to fit into the plot. Apart from having the sheriff dead when Garrett got there, naturally. :P
Also, I am curious - where does Basso fit in? I thought he was from the first game. . .but I just finished it and I didn't see a single mention of him in there. Did I miss something?

How could you miss Basso in Dark Project? On Expert it's a requirement to break him out of Cragscleft, if I remember correctly. Worst case scenario, you probably read his name entered into the prisoner manifest.
As far as Truart's murder, that has to do with the whole "the cops are hassling the Pagans" plotline. Inference from Blackmail is that some kind of Trickster Beast got into the mansion and killed the Sheriff -- sent by Viktoria, most likely. I'm not that good at the memory, so someone's gonna have to fill in the blanks.
But I seem to think that Viktoria got fed up waiting for Mosely to get anywhere with her little Fifth Column / Pagan Sympathiser routine.

 Now that you say that I don't know how I could have missed him either. I thought covered that level pretty good. But I crawled all over that place (although I rushed through the bit with the zombies, I will admit and ran like a scared rabbit when I found myself back in their territory from another tunnel. lol Garrett is a bit of a coward with me at the controls) and never even got a whisper of him.
It is possible I wasn't playing on expert. . .though I generally all three games on expert (if nothing else just so I can growl and complain that I can't get things over with by killing people.). That was only the second level of the game so maybe I missed hitting expert that soon. Now I have to go back and find him. Drat and I do hate those zombies. When I played through, I had to break Cutty out, but there was no objective to break Basso out and I completed the mission without him.
Ok, that pagan/Victoria sent beast makes sense. Guess I never connected the two before. I've played the game nearly a dozen times so far and for some reason I always looked at that part and wondered where that came from and why it was never followed up on. I suppose they could have followed up on it better, still. Let you find a note or overhear something to explain it.
I still think its cool the other people around the area are doing their own thing separate of what Garrett's doing. Definitely makes the whole world a bit more alive.

Why did we have to frame Lt. Hagen?

You were paid - look at the mission briefing closely. Viktoria paid you to prevent Truart from giving the Mosley's job (where she protects pagans) to Hagen.
Look at the letters in Trail of Blood and the notes in Shoalsgate.

Jeez, I never read anyhting, unless it does the New/Completed/Secret Objective noise, or if it is funny/emotional/disturbing. You now, reads that are INTERESTING.

Mosley was unhappy with the way things were in the city. Truart was sucking up to the Mechanists who were persecuting Pagans and filling the city with pollution. She contacted the Pagans and began working with them on a way of getting Truart out of the picture. Hagen was a problem because he was completely loyal to Truart. Mosley couldn't frame him herself, but Viktoria told her she'd handle it. Viktoria knew just the man for the job and arranged for Garrett to do the job.
The killing of Truart was done with Mosley's assistance - remember that it was her keys that you found at the murder scene? One of the letters you find states that she was worried she'd be implicated because Viktoria's creature dropped the keys at the murder scene.

I never understood why that guy gave you money to frame Lt. Hagen, and I thought they never actually explained it. That does make sense that Viktoria would have sent the guy.
I thought they made it pretty clear that a Pagan assasin had killed Truart, but maybe it was one of Viktoria's beasts. I'll have to play through again to remember. Does it specifically say that it was a creature and not a Pagan?

"I heard a commotion coming from Truart's room, but on my way to check it out, it stopped. When I got to the room I swear I saw a dark shape running off. I should have taken a shot at him. That's when we saw the boss had been killed."
"Did you get a look at the killer's face?"
"No, it was too fast. It was standing right over his body. I must have spooked it -- When it saw me it flew right out the doors and off the balcony. I've never seen anything move like that. It couldn't have been human."
"Don't tell me... you think a monster killed the Sheriff."
"Like I said, I don't know what it was. I sure am glad I wasn't in the room when that thing was ripping up the Sheriff. No one should have to die like that."

It is making more sense now. I know Mosley was working for/with the Pagans, and I remember finding her keys at the scene of the crime. . .although given what the guard saw I sort of wrote it off. If that thing got off via the balcony, it wasn't Mosley. Given that even Garrett takes a fair bit of damage falling off that balcony. (says the player who's fallen off that house far too many times - roof is an autokill lol)
If that creature was one of Victoria's then, or involved in the Mosley/Pagan thing. . then T2X is wrong, isn't it? It couldn't have been a semi-unrelated beast created by a party that had no place in the original plot.
