I know most people don't own a ps3 here, but this really deserves to be posted. Looks like they got everything right this time. Shooting looks fun, climbing looks fun, bit of stealth, and nice graphics.

Gears of Persia. Precisely why I haven't bothered with the first one, it looks entirely derivative. The execution might be tight and I love well put together AAA blockbuster games, but stuff like this is strictly bargain bin fodder, unless I'm a big fan of the series.
I'm a bit like Gunsmoke, always on the look out for a bargain, I'll definitely pick up Uncharted some day.

Considering that combat is the worst part of the new PoPs, whereas Gears is built on combat, I'd say Gears of Persia sounds pretty damn appealing.

Coincidently I heard that the voice actor of Nathan Drake voices the Prince in the 2008 PoP reboot, delivering pretty much the same performance.

Gears of Persia.
More like Gears of Tombraider, terrific game, ultimate budget title if you are unsure.

Uncharted is an awesome game! It is cliched, but it's deliberately cliched, like Indiana Jones. It's part of it's charm. It also has nice graphics, a good balance of tomb-raider puzzles and climbing, and third-person-shooter action, a derivative yet wonderfully fun story and some really interesting level designs that have a vast amount of variety considering they're all on a tropical island.
I'd urge anyone to give it a chance, especially since you can get it very cheap nowadays. I'm really looking forward to the second one.
The only problem with it really is the (hopefully unintentional) racism - every single bad guy is black or hispanic except one and all the good guys are white. Given the setting and context, I can believe it was entirely unintentional, but really someone in QA should have picked up on that.

I loved the first game, but one major problem I had with it was that every time you got to somewhere new and untouched by man for hundreds of years, some mook was already there and waiting to shoot you. Took away that sense of discovery which Tomb Raider still manages to evoke.
It was also a little too combat-heavy for my liking, but overall very, very good with perfect action movie characters and acting. And it occasionally reminded me of Romancing the Stone, which is all good :)
I'm a bit disappointed that they've been emphasising the multiplayer in the new one, but we'll see how it all pans out.

.
LOL, good point.
I played a bit of the 1st one, and it just didn't suck me in. It sure had gorgeous visuals, though.

Also, I found the whole supernatural twist near the end of the story to be really quite out of place.

I think they were striving for a mix of realism and the supernatural like the Indy movies, but the shift in tone was a bit too sudden and dramatic.
It did make for a nice little quasi survival horror side-trip, however. I liked Uncharted for pretty much everything except its tendency to swarm you with hordes of enemies. But even then the combat was fluid and graceful.
There's something about the game - I call it the 'Sands of Time' effect - that draws you back for 'just one more go', and before you know it, you've spent another whole hour playing it.
