Under what conditions you will not buy or even not play Thief 4 at all? - by Lady Rowena

I swear that if there are regenerating AI again I will not buy Thief IV! TDS was beautiful as far as scenery, but having regenerating AI in a game is no better than playing Pacman.

What will stop me from buying Thief 4
1) Garret not being the main character, im afraid im to wrapped up in this character and his personality that Thief just wouldn't be the same for me without him.
2) If they set it in modern times my cash will stay in the bank, I play thief to immerse myself in the fantasy environment if i want reality i can step out my front door.
3) The only DRM i will accept is the simple serial+cd check, anything else and my Mastercard will not see the light of day.
4) If it has the same small levels of TDS or is 3rd person the dust will continue to gather on my wallet.
5) Re-generating AI, if i have to knockout everyone more than once then the whole thing is unrealistic when i knockout someone they had better be in a goddamn coma for at least 6 months :)
That about wraps it up for me, its a short list of pitfalls that can be easily avoided, lets just hope that the folks at Eidos will pay attention to the folks that actually played and enjoyed the first 2 games and not the marketing droids going after the lowest common denominator (console crowd) this time, i wont hold my breath though!

I will add to this:
I will never, ever buy Thief if it looks cartoonish, if the characters and the city aren't drawn well.

I won't buy it if it's worse than Deadly Shadows.

I think the game being developed should be called Thief III instead of Thief IV, because TDS was technically not Thief III. So unless the game is renamed Thief III and they forget that TDS ever happened then I won't buy the game. No offense to the TDS developers given that they at least tried to continue the series.

... because TDS was technically not Thief III.
Do you know how the main TDS' executable file was named? T3.exe ;). TDS was a marketing BS-name, especially created for the new gamers, but technically TDS was Thief 3.
BTW, taffers, I think that if upcoming T4 will be released as "Thief 4", then it will be the T1&T2-style game, but if it will be released as "Thief: <insert_"cool"_marketing_BS_here>", then it will be...TDS 2.

* If Thiaf plays in a modern enviroment I wont even take a look at the games package. Thief is meant to be played in a medieval steampunk-ish world. Something else does not work.
* If Garrett is not the main character, Thief does not work without him in my opinon. So no money for Eidos if this is the case.
* If the developers ''updated his personality'' to new standarts, like an overdone romance, goony aggressive behavior or if they turned him into an EMO.
* If they include kung-fu abilities for garrett to kick in doors or to knock out treebeasts with a drop-kick
* Loading zones / maps which are as small as TDS ones or even smaller.
* If eye-cancer creating blue TDS fog makes into the game.
* If they make AI respawning
* If its a Xbox 360 / PS3-crippled conversion
* If there are no Hammerites or Thief-Monsters in Thiaf
They just simply have to convert most features of T1 and T2 into a new engine and start a new interesting story, thats all! :p

If T4 is in a modern environment and is not named Thief then that's ok for me. Gameplay mechanics is important. But if it is called Thief, then I would expect an effort to connect to T1/2 atmospherically.

I know the executable was T3.exe but that does not make it Thief III. The fact that I did not get the same excitement or the same feeling from TDS that I did from T1/TG/T2 and countless fan missions is what made TDS not Thief III for me. So I guess that the executable being T3.exe makes it technically Thief III in the numerical sense....So you got me there. TDS was
Thief Whatever for me. :cheeky:
