Under what conditions you will not buy or even not play Thief 4 at all? - by Lady Rowena

... If it will contain 6-8 hours of gameplay + no reply value whatsoever like all games nowadays... :nono:

Personally I can't think of any thing that will prevent me from buying T4, save my own unlikely death. It's not like I can't afford it and if I decide to dislike it (like TDS) I will certanly wait to do so untill after I played it. :cheeky:

I liked TDS. In aspects of story, atmosphere and execution it was almost as good as its predecessor. There were a few aspects about it that I didn't like as much. The climbing gloves were a neat idea, but they should have complemented the rope arrows instead of replacing them. I loved the idea of taffing through the city between missions and being given the opportunity to break out of prison if caught by the watch. Whereas the idea of the factions was quite interesting but the execution was lacking. It did not add enough to the game, and it was too easy to just ally with both factions. However, mutually exclusive alliances and unlockable bonus missions when reaching a certain standing with a faction could make it more interesting and add replayability.
It is very likely that I will buy the game, if it is reasonably true to the setting and atmosphere of the previous 3 games. What would probably prevent me from buying it is if there had to be no Garrett or if the setting had to change drastically (or both).

I wouldn't buy it if there is even a hint of mandatory third-person perspective.
Aside from that, it's a long way off and I'll just wait and see. There are probably many things that would put me off, but it's too early to say.
same here on both accounts

If it includes Quick Time Events.

One reason to boycott the game: T4 is not a first person sneaker anymore, just an action-paced fps with sneaking elements.

Perspective, protagonists, time-lines and such aren't deal breakers for me (though I might express a preference on those things). However, I doubt I will be buying Thiaf if it's not exceptional. I don't have need or patience for yet another mediocre game. Given that I think that 99% of games are outright crap, then EM have their work cut out.

Apart from the obvious "they turn Thief into a first-person-shooter fragfest" which would make Looking-Glass turn in it's grave*, then the only thing that would completely put me off would be if the DRM meant limited-installations and/or mandatory Steam. I understand that this would be a decision by the publishers Eidos rather than Eidos Montreal, but it would still put me off buying it until they released a patch that removed those requirements.
If it has a good Engine & they release a good editor with it, then I can forgive a lot in the game as we could make our own great missions.
[* Oooh, irony here!]

First person is really the only way to go for Garrett Master Thief.
