Under what conditions you will not buy or even not play Thief 4 at all? - by Lady Rowena

If it has a good Engine & they release a good editor with it, then I can forgive a lot in the game as we could make our own great missions.
AFAIK, Thief 4 will use Tomb Raider: Underworld's engine (a.k.a Crystal Dynamics Engine). I played last one. Average graphics, average size of maps, average performance. On the level of Far Cry
1 (© 2004 Crytek) or even lower, IMHO. So what the reason to wait two-three years for Thief 4 to create your own missions even without a confidence that the game's editor will ever be released? There is another basement exists, and it's name is...TDM ;). Don't waste your time and begin right now.

I really can't answer that till more is known to us.

I start think we should all give a chance to Thief 4 when it comes out - we all should try the demo.. After that, we can decide whether to proceed with buying the game or not...

Can't agree more. Actually, I think T4 devs will have to work really hard and long to even catch up with the current state of TDM engine in terms of feel/features/possibilities/quality.
Plus, seeing the current trends in the game development business, there is a
very big chance made by fans TDM will turn up better* than made by pros T4 engine in the end.
* for t1/2 fans at least. Eidos will cater needs of the mass market first and foremost, that's without doubt. And it's not necessarily good for our case (see Bioshock).

I couldn't agree with you more 242. TDM all the way! Its beautiful.

When TDS was released, I ran out like a good little puppy and bought it that day. That wont' be happening with T4. Reasons that would make me not buy T4?
1. I will not buy the game if it's a 3rd person/ 1st person hybrid like Deadly Shadows. If EM doesn't respect the series by making it exclusively 1st person, my dollars are gone. There is no logical reason to have a view point that undermines the core gameplay.
2. If they try turning thief into more of an action game, I will not buy it. There are a hoard of games that do this already. Thief stood out for it's uniqueness. If they can't respect that, I will not buy.

Yes, we should. But...God helps those who help themselves ;). I mean: buy Doom 3, install TDM and make your dream game by yourself.

Noone forced you to use the 3rd person view in TDS. In fact, if you didn't accidentally hit the V key you didn't even notice it was there. 1st person was still default. I don't see the problem.

Wrong. The first person feel was off
because they implemented third person.
