Under what conditions you will not buy or even not play Thief 4 at all? - by Lady Rowena

What if no one buys you it but the whole world and Jesus denounce it as the worst thing to happen to gaming ever? What then? Hmmm?

Borrow it from my Friend-Who-Buys-Any-PCgame-That's-Anything-REMOTELY-Like-Thief.
And then commiserate with her about why she was stupid enough to buy it when even Jesus denounced said game. :(
(And thereby saving $50 in the process.)

Plays Dark mod and is quite content.

Three almost mandatory things for me to buy thief:
* No annoying DRM of any form. Preferably the disc will not be needed to play like Tomb Raider Legend.
* That it's dark.
* That it doesn't require the absolute latest hardware.
Some things that would definitely help their case:
* That it comes equipped with a level editor, at some point.
* That Benny is in it.
* CUTSCENES!
* Above cutscenes in that same swell "hand drawn" style that TDP and TMA had.
* Enemies fighting each other on occasion.
In the end though, I will probably settle for anything.

I am simply going to wait. TDS was a disapointment to me due to the game engines limitations and clunky feel, but the excitement and hype had me pre-ordering. That was my mistake. The game itself was unplayable on my hardware initially, but after it got patched, there were some good points imo.
1. lock picking, after you get the knack, picking a lock is more immersive and fun in TDS vs the first two, especially if an ai was near.
2. The enviroments were good, at least the first real mission, I forget its name now, but the nobles house. Working my way around in the courtyard was a chore, but enjoyable, which was as far as I could tolerate the interface. Which brings me to items that will stop me from even trying the game:
1. 3rd Person view, it didn't work for TDS, won't in Thief 4
2. Blackjacking, As Dia pointed out, broken in TDS..Fubared even.
3. Absence of swimming and rope arrows. :(
That said, if Thief 4 gets a good review here and elsewhere as a solid descendent of thief 1 and 2 for its storyline and feel, I'll give it a shot, regardless of the game engine. If its booed and hissed at as a TDS continuation..I'll pass.

Exactly what Sap'em said. I got excited about TDS and was dissapointed. I already learned that you shouldn't buy a game based on hype and especially not pre-order it. But this was Thief, so I made an exception. I will not make the same mistake for T4 though. I rather wait a bit and see for myself how it is before buying it.

If this community makes bad comments about thief4 i will not buy it.

Then the issue would've already been decided.
Kin on 9/6/2009 at 09:51
As you can see I am not planning to buy it immediately after it is out.
