Ok guys, here we now have in finished form what I've talked about on this Forum last week in another thread: a Thief experience of a different kind. Or more precisely: an interactive short story/text adventure style thingy realized with a Flash interface, based on Thief screenshots. Enriched with T2X music (thanks again to the creators), music from our own sound artists, some pictures from our artists as well, and lots of sound effects. And hopefully a suspenseful plot. More details in the credits in the module itself.
As I thought you might be interested in how it turned out, I post it here for you to check out. So here's the link: (

http://stuff.santharia.com/artimidor/thief/3_small.jpgTo start the Uninvited module you need to type START UNINVITED and hit ENTER. Here's a short summary how things work:
- You can move around like in any good old text adventure by typing directions like N, E, S, W and U, D (for UP and DOWN). In which directions you can go you see on the mini map at the bottom left. The central diamond thingy is your current position.
If you see an arrow pointing up this means you can go up in this room, if an arrow points downwards you can go down there. You can also use the numpad if you've turned it on and press the cursor buttons to move around.
- At the top left you have a list of things you see in this room. You can examine them by typing e.g. EXAMINE BOOK. If you just type in the name of that item, like BOOK you automatically examine it. You can manipulate/use items by typing READ BOOK or OPEN DOOR etc.
- You can also take items by typing TAKE KNIFE for example and then check your inventory by typing I or INVENTORY.
- You can save your game state by typing SAVE and then type RESTORE to get back to the position again.
- But that's basically all you need to know for this one. Remember, this Thief special is just a short story, not really a game with role playing elements etc. (You'd need to play another module using that Flashg interface for that.)
- You don't need the mouse at all, just type in the words/commands and hit ENTER.
Lots of further instructions on navigation and stuff can be found (
http://www.santharia.com/santhworld_modules/santhworld_frame.htm) here, but you don't really need it for the Uninvited module, trust me ;)
Anyway, in case you have some minutes to spare, check it out - it shouldn't take much longer than half an hour. Just remember to examine things carefully in order to get further hints - the story practically guides you anyway.
Hope you enjoy! If you've played it, please let me know what you think!

Very cool. Excellent use of sounds and visuals to enhance the atmosphere. I love text adventures. They're beyond dated, compared to current computer games, but I still like to read novels. Sometimes my imagination is more immersive than any cutting-edge polygon-based world. Text adventures have the potential to be as good as novels, only better because they're interactive. Too bad there isn't more interest in them. You're fighting the good fight! Can anyone author modules for Santhworld? I didn't see an obvious way.

Fantastic :D I loved it, I couldn't stop playing, I just had to know what was happening.
Congratulations, that was really cool and genuinely creepy!
Well done :thumb:

That reminds me of an old Westwood rpg series by the name of "Eye of the Beholder" great atmosphere indeed! :thumb:

Cool concept, a neat twist on the old text adventures like Zork. Love to see some more of these, even something right out of the actual world of Thief, maybe even using Garrett.
Question though, the ending confused me, the credits said that
I was the ghost of the thief
But I thought that it was revealed that
I was actually the ghost of the guy killed by the thief
Guess I'll have to go back and replay to be sure. In any case, nice work!

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
:cheeky: Can't wait to play through this tomorrow! I grew up playing Zork and similar games. Even wrote a few of my own when in my teens.

Cool, it was really neat to "play" it and see the little Thief screenshots. I especially liked the little views, like the windows and the looking down the hatch and stuff. Pretty well written too!
It was a cool experience I just had :thumb:

Great to hear that you enjoyed it guys! :D - Will answer questions about Santhworld modules later.
@Brethren: Concerning the reveal. That should be covered in the final scenes:
What do you see in the mirror? It seems it is something unexpected, so the final flash of memory and realization comes at the very end...
