One of those excellent ideas where you can't help thinking: "why hasn't someone thought of this before"?
Great work, Phantom :thumb:

(
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/member.php?u=32367) Spiders abandoned his Thief 2 FM
If at First over two years ago so for most this is no news anymore.
I contacted him again recently after a re-appearance on the forums, asking if he might get back to it someday, but he stated that the files are sadly long gone.
He suggested that the following "postmortem explanation" of his project could be shared with the community. Some of you might be interested or get inspired by it.
Quote:
If at First was a four-mission campaign. It started with a city mission in which the player could work their way from the lowliest slums to the most towering high-class districts, and then the infiltration of the Mansion of Interest would ensue. Mission 2 was an exploration of that mansion and, mission 3 was a short, dialog-heavy interlude in which Garrett (in disguise) would meet with a few people and discuss some pretty intense plot twists that occurred in mission 2. Mission 4 was a return to that original mansion, and it would end with a very Noir-ish, disturbing conclusion that would leave Garrett in the clutches of the Wardens. The plot was a whopper (I had 15 or more pages of notes on it), and I can't even remember all the intrigue and subterfuge that was supposed to go on at this point. It had a lot to do with Ramirez.
I'd finished about 60% of the campaign. It was looking very nice and I was intending to release sometime the following year, and then a hard-drive crash ensued and I completely lost the will to start over. All the files are now completely lost, and there's no hope of resuming work. Years later, it's very heartening to know that there are still some people out there who wonder what's been going on with the project. I really do appreciate your interest, Phantom.
I believe I did manage to save an Area Brush of (
http://i3.tinypic.com/wlyhdu.jpg) this pub, which I was particularly proud of. If I can remember how to archive all the textures and such together, I might be able to release it as a tiny morsel of what If at First was supposed to have been.
Regards,
~Spiders

Thats a shame - those screens look amazing, and the description of the city level has me wishing it would have seen a release.

And this, right here, is why backups to other machines, and to writable CDs, are so incredibly important. :(
