Updated FM: Mission X version 1.13 - Walkthrough, Lootlist, Lexicon, Trivia, Album - by Digital Nightfall

A very enjoyable mission, although I find the difficulty too high (too many guards in the corridors). Well, that may just be because I instisted in ghosting on the highest difficulty on the first attempt. :thumb:
But i think the gang of MCs is a strange constellation: The chief (Air) does not take part in the missions, one MC is hires (Stone), one just a member for this one mission (Rubber) and two are newbies (Steel and Glass). So, a couple of months earlier going on a mission meant that the only member of the Master's gang (Air) remote controlled a hired thief (Stone) :)
Anyway, a big round of applause for the mission and its makers :D
P.S.: Is there a downloadable version of the walkthrough? My firewall refuses to load .mht-pages, and I'm not going to change that.

Thanks.
Oh, and although the authors claim that they did not put artificial limitations on playing style in the mission, they acctually did: It's not possible to do the "Silent Project" for the mission, i.e. knock everybody out, collect the bodies in one place and make a screenshot of them :(
Digital Nightfall on 11/10/2008 at 17:37
Well poo-poo on us.

Well, just make a Silent Project" patch for me ;)

Next thing I know there are two guards and a servant in the room, looking for me. I duck and hide in the NE corner of the room...and all three of them group around me without ever finding me. They brush up against me, nothing. I stand up and knock out the servant (so that he practically falls on top of me) but the guards don't get any wiser. Finally, they give up and leave.
This is a general T1, TG and T2 problem that has been around since the games were published. It's really not the fault of the mission designers.
Quote:
I wait for a minute, then take a peek out into the long corridor. Noone around. I dart over to the doorway to room 302 (where I'm in total darkness) and wait for a guard to arrive. Sure enough, 20 seconds later a guard turns the corner, immediately spots me and runs me through.
Actually, there seems to be a problem with turning the lights off. After Steel
disabled the fuse I spent ages in the
camera room waiting for the right moment to sneak out. But although all lights were switched on, the light gem was completely black. Later on, when loading or saving the game, the lights went on or off at apparingly random occasions (or at least I did not find a pattern). At one time, the lights in the fourth floor were switched off, but were on again next time I came around.

I would encounter more of these Superguards as I went on. The guard patrolling the south part of the Monarch Suite could spot me through the open window while I stood in a perfect shadow...
Some of the guards seem to have very acute hearing.
Quote:
(On an unrelated note, I fired a Moss Arrow on the ground in front of the aforementioned window in the Monarch Suite. My footsteps were muffled by the moss, but not those of the patrolling guard.)
I don't think that's the fault of the authors.

The other one is not deaf, but he suddenly decided to spend his shift standing on one of the tables in the unused room just to the west of the moneychanger.
This is a well know T2 problem that also appears in the OMs. Actually it's *less* of a problem in MX. For example, the guards in the
monarch suite are able to come after you if you climb on the poker table *and* are able to get back down again. Very good work by the dsigners!

Some of the stairs in the vents aren't fond of being climbed on. Particularly the stairs in the NW area. I think this is because they aren't made to "stand out" (i.e. being positioned on a wall that is further out than the surrounding walls) There is a set of stairs in the vents that "stands out" and give me no problems, but the others give me a 50% chance of falling to my death.
Well, actually climbing ladders in T1/T2 is a difficult art. I didn't have any problem with any of them, except the broken ones in the
big shaft. If possible at all, try to get on a ladder at an angle of 90 degrees, facing the ladder directly and moving sideways as little as possible.

# Playing on Impossible sure felt like Impossible until I realised I could slaughter my way through the mission. It just didn't feel right, that I am to avoid setting off the alarm, but can otherwise butcher the guards and staff. Why give us such an easy way out?
Then try ghosting the mission with all loot (it *can* be done).

Okay, so ... has anyone tried to find the quotes scroll? I didn't make it easy., but there is a clue in the patch text. :)

Unfortunately, the program always wants to overwrite the mission .zip file. I guess this program is too stupid for that.:tsktsk:
I suggest you try uTorrent. It works properly.

I finally got around to playing the patched version, having been one of the unfortunate ones that got stuck because the team members stopped communicating.
I'm sorry to report that the problem has not been completely fixed!
Last message i got was that Stone had switched the bonds, and then nothing for about 20 minutes of gametime.
I have a hardsave just before reporting in that i cut the elevator power at about 0:41:12 gametime and if report in and just let Thief sit there then the plot continues just fine (missing Rubber and new objective).
The next hardsave made at 1:09:14 i can let sit for 15 minutes and still nothing happens, so that is definately broken.
I must admit i'm getting fed up with this mission. It's seems to be a case of: Nice technical wizardry, shame about the game....

Did you download the complete patched package or did you download the patch zip and create a new archive? If you combined the archives, there may have been a mistake made somewhere. It's also possible that you loaded a saved game from your previous playthrough before the patch without knowing it.
If you're fed up with the mission, feel free to drop it. 8 years of toil and perseverance against nearly impossible odds for a team of a dozen people shouldn't be any reason for you to spend a few hours in mild frustration. ;)
