Hello Taffers!
It brings me great joy to present to you my updated version of
Lady Lomat's Flute for Thief 2 (New Dark 1.21).
Download the mission here:(
www.muzboz.com/Development/Thief2/Lomat/LadyLomat'sFlute-v1.00.zip) Lady Lomat's Flute (v1.00).zip (37.5mb)
In 2001, I released Lord Lomat's Flute. I always meant to go back and complete what I had started.
Well!... 12 years later, I finally have! And here it is!
Lady Lomat's Flute!
It's been a blast working on the mission again after making a decade of other games at various companies.
I love Thief 2, and it's a joy to go back into the world that Looking Glass created! It really is a special place. :D
Thanks very much to my great friend Brendan Barnett for illustrating and voicing the mission intro!

http://www.muzboz.com/Development/Thief2/Lomat/Movie-MontageImages-Small.jpgHistory of the mission's developmentI worked on Lord Lomat's Flute for many months back in 2001, released it, and always meant to go back and tweak and balance it better, add more architectural detail, and make it a finished level I could be really proud of.
Well! It took me 12 years, but with the release of the lovely New Dark updates, I've finally found the time and inspiration to go back into DromEd and re-release the level! It was really great working with the updated DromEd tool, and New Dark 1.21! It's great to see new life still being put into this game after more than ten years!
My goal for the mission was to create a fairly small environment, with a simple clear goal, but to give the player plenty of different options for how to tackle the scenario, with lots of dynamic ways to move in and out of the mansion, allowing for a different playthrough every time. You can go in sneaky, and complete the entire scenario unseen, or you can go in climbing and leaping about, or you can go in sword-swinging and gung-ho crazy! All methods work, and you can combine different approaches to your delight. :D
What's been updated...I have created an Intro Movie, made with illustrations and voice over by my talented friend Brendan Barnett!
I've done a lot of work throughout the mission. Among lots of other things, I've added more mise en scène, tweaked and added more lighting, tweaked the Guard AI characteristics, and re-worked the ambient audio environment, added more Letters and Books, and also added a small new area.
Technical Details and RequirementsYou'll need New Dark 1.21 to play (at least, that's the version I worked with while creating the mission).
The Intro Movie is in Xvid codec, so it may skip past the intro movie if you don't have the XVid codec installed. It worked well for all my mission testers.
Thanks to the testers!Speaking of mission testers, thank you very very much to Nickie, Nightwalker, Zappen, Soldi, Gloria Creep & Undead Gamer.
TranslationsAlso, Zappen provided German Translations, and Soldi provided Russian Translations, which are included in the zip, and have been verified as working!
Enjoy the mission!
Please do leave any feedback below!

Edit: Having problem downloading. Any mirrors available?

Thanks for the mirror clearing.
Also, finished :D Great small mission :thumb:
I expected
to find the lady's flute somewhere locked up tight after the other thief break in and since she cared so much for it :D

Thanks for this update!
I have a problem with the intro video, though. It doesn't play.
Tried to fix that by downloading xvid1.3.2 and did allow it to register for all video formats.
But it doesn't help. Any ideas?

Does the video play for you in a media player, such as VLC or Media Player Classic, or Windows Media Player?
You can open up the mission zip file, and go to the movies folder, and double click the file to try to play it in a normal media player.
One tester did say they had a few different Thief configurations, and the movie wasn't playing on one configuration, but would on another. I think that loading the mission using FMSel was working for them, but not when using Darkloader, or something. But I've been using Darkloader and it works fine for me.
The intro movie is the YouTube video embedded above on this thread, if all else fails.

IMHO it's a good introductory mission for children! :thumb:
Or those people considering "Lord Bafford's Manor" or "Running Interference" to be too difficult...

Yes, the video runs fine in a media player. Also, Darkloader extracted it ok.
Yet, even installing xvid did not help to see it in-game.
But with FMSel it runs fine. That - afaik - is using its own videodecoder anyway.
