Oops, I accidentally finished :o . At least now I know what to do last!
Must head back and finish more of the optional objectives... :nono:
Is there a way to open the gates south of the stairs?

All right, I'm trying to finish the colicky-baby objective: I get it that spirit babies look like puffs of light floating around. I read the readable that says the baby needs a rattle, and the other readable that sometimes families bury a rattle with the remains of their baby. I understand that the floaty spirit in the stacked-sarcophagi room is happy, so it must have a rattle.
But I cannot for the life of me find it!
The only switch I can find is the one that opens the ladderway to the underground chambers. I cannot find any other to move or open some sarcophagus, nor can I find a rattle itself. I tried grabbing the floaty spirit thingie, and I tried shooting it with holy water. But nothing I do seems to have any effect.
Can someone who completed this objective give me a bit more of a hint than I've read in the thread?
Thanks,
Dafydd

Not in this mission.

As usual, I'm ghosting, which includes playing on Expert (that's part of the official ghosting rules). I believe I'm still on a clean ghost (no busts, no alerts, no damage inflicted, no destruction of property, etc).
. . .
It's tough but fair so far; nothing to make me whine, "Oh, give me a bleeping break!"

The reason I asked is that the locations of some items vary by difficulty.

It's a bit challenging but not impossible. I know at least three people besides myself that have ghosted it successfully. I'm sure you'll be able to too.
Perfect Thief is possible too. Supreme may also be possible, but I'm less certain about the exact rules for the really exotic versions of ghosting and don't know for certain. Does the fact that you can't drop keys rule that out or is it OK? Would you have to put back the
ancient key? That would be a pain. Not impossible but a pain. What about returning the
rattle after use? Again a pain but possible.
EDIT: on rereading (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=47701) the Supreme Rules, I believe it might be possible, but seriously difficult. One question would be the ruling on loss of health. The player has no control over a scripted event & I would think it would be OK in that one instance. Complete all objectives should be possible, but what about Bonus Objectives that you don't know about? I don't know what the ruling is on the use of invisibility or, more controversially, freezing an AI with a spell. I have ghosted the mission without any darkening or use of moss arrows, but I hated it. I just did it as a challenge to see if I could. I also did an 18 minute ghosting run through, only completing the required objectives. Again, it wasn't much fun that way!

Did you get the objective? If not, look in Pauel's rooms. Hint for after you have the objective: The person who wrote the note that gives you the objective, has a To Do list which might offer another clue. The only note on Pauel's table
which is from the janitor about the lost spanner does not bring up any objective. In addition,
searching the auditorium inch by inch for that tool was a total failure.I'd be most grateful for receiving a PM to also clarify a few remaining questions like
the ingredients of the Winter spell, or the eventual use of the Lyre and the Armillary. It is your "responsibility" after all:D - this FM is simply too addictive to put aside...

My mistake. :o At one time it gave you the objective, but I changed it to be a bonus objective, so you now only get the objective after it is completed. You need to figure out to do it on your own. Makes it extra special if you do.
