I read about an "all magic spells" bonus objective - I created the
2 spells from the classroom book (gas arrow, invis.-speed-potion) as well as the 4 "lost" spells (fireproof, minor toxic, petrify, lockpicky), but didn't get that bonus. Did I miss some other spell recipe?
Yes.
A spell falls to the ground from the grimoire when you unlock it.Quote Posted by Quant
Still have to work out the third way to climb
EAeschers stairs... so far I only mastered a hmm.. "acrobatic" and a "wise" way. Any hint for "strong"?I think your
"acrobatic" might be the "strong" way. Sounds like you are missing the way of the scholar. For that, think about what a scholar would use. And what readable discussed that object.Quote Posted by Quant
You made an excellent mission, and I can barely wait for the next part.
Thank you!
Thank you. Since it was my first mission and since I was breaking a few rules of thumb about good mission design and game play, especially with respect to the numbers of things to read, I had my concerns about how it would be received. I just hoped that I had put in enough game play rewards to compensate. I promise, the next mission in the campaign will not have a lot of required readings. In any event, it's good to hear that you enjoyed it. I really appreciate the feedback I've gotten in this thread and do take to heart all the constructive comments.
PS. nickie is helping by proofreading and fact checking my "Complete Loot List" so I should have that ready to post soon. The "Complete and Unabridged Hints" document is mostly ready, but I would appreciate postings or PMs about hints you would like me to include, just to be sure I include everything needed.

Thanks for the hints - with them I finally managed to get all 3 bonus objectives and found all 3 ways to climb the stairs.
And while back at the academy I did a little more reading and had another LOL moment:
Polygonatum biflorum. Hairy Solomon's seal is used with other plants in creating an internal medicine with astringent properties. A little known secondary application is to reduce polygon counts in large open areas with long lines of sight. Simply apply a tincture made from the Polygonatum flower externally to the textures involved. This will decrease the likelihood of DromEd crashes without resorting to goat sacrifice.
Brilliant! :joke:

I tried to reward those who actually read everything.
It's a real plant, but I'm not so certain about the application of the tincture to textures, or maybe I didn't get the concentration right. I had to reduce polygon counts the old fashioned way. :(

I stuck (expert). Where's the key to the window lock at stairs? Didn't find it in Coleman's area. And how to enter the attic secret room. I compared mnemonic with glyph clock, that gives me no clues though...

Where's the key to the window lock at stairs? Didn't find it in Coleman's area. And how to enter the attic secret room. I compared mnemonic with glyph clock, that gives me no clues though... Both of these are provided earlier in this thread. However, again,
For the first question, you didn't look closely enough. And you can get into the same area another way, so you could try looking for other areas to explore. But if you are determined to find the way to unlock that lock, the hints are:
HINT 1:
Go to the library and read about the Delphanic Esoterica: “... On the completion of an Acolyte's Initiation, the newly initiated Keeper is given a medallion enspelled with the glyphs of health and balance. And on Elevation, each new Elder is given a Ring of Unlocking keyed to that Elder's new duties. This ring may also aid in the unlocking of unprotected locks ...”HINT 2:
Find the Keeper's Ring of Unlocking labeled "Special Collections Ring".HINT 3:
Which keeper(s) would have the responsibility for the Special Collections? Search their rooms and offices closelyHINT 4:
Search Coleman's residence closelyOUT AND OUT SPOILER:
There is a brick which when frobbed opens a secret safe. The ring is on the top shelf of the safe. For the second, here are the hints:
HINT 1:
Go to the Front Office and read the crumpled paper in wastebasket: “4/4/32 / To: Bursar / Cc.: File / Subj.: Special Storage Passcode / I went up to the special storage safe and reset the passcode for you. The attached mnemonic is much simpler than the last one: \"The pelagic argosy sights land.\" That mnemonic was a big mistake. Even I had trouble with it. As long as you remember how to tell the time, you should have no troubles with the new one. / By My Personal Hand, / Leopold, Headmaster”HINT 1 ALTERNATE:
Go to the Administration Office and read the memo in the Headmaster's files: “4/4/32 / To: Bursar / Cc.: File / Subj.: Special Storage Passcode / I went up to the special storage safe and reset the passcode for you. The attached mnemonic is much simpler than the last one: \"The pelagic argosy sights land.\" That mnemonic was a big mistake. Even I had trouble with it. As long as you remember how to tell the time, you should have no troubles with the new one. / By My Personal Hand, / Leopold, Headmaster”HINT 2:
Go to the Administration Office and read the memo to self in the Headmaster's files: “4/4/32 / To: File / Cc.: / Subj.: Special Storage Passcode Mnemonic Location / The cat's got my tongue. Ha ha ha. / By my personal hand, / Magister Coleman, Headmaster”HINT 3:
Go to the Headmaster's Office and read the folded note under cat paperweight: "The necromancer Ohlm fed an archer and seven sailors to the undead"HINT 3 ALTERNATE (NORMAL DIFFICULTY ONLY):
Go to the Front Office and read the folded note inside the safe: "The necromancer Ohlm fed an archer and seven sailors to the undead"HINT 4:
Go to the Glyph Lessons Classroom and read the clock face poster on wall. It gets written to your notes pages. Also the glyphology class notebook gets written to your notes pages.HINT 5:
Use the clock face poster to translate the words of the mnemonic into glyphs: "The necromancer Ohlm fed an archer and seven sailors to the undead" and the clock faces to translate the glyphs into numbers. This is optional, but I find it easier to remember them that way. You could just remember the glyphs, I suppose.OUT AND OUT SPOILER:
necromancer = 8 ; archer = 5 ; seven = 7 ; sailors = 6 ; undead = 4 (so passcode = 85764)And congratulations on figuring out how to get the scroll on your own. That has stumped quite a few experts.

Yes, that trick reminded me Zontiks' tough missions. He loves people fail to solve by him invented brain twisting puzzles, even knowing the answer, like was in King's Story. The hardest fan-miission ever made. Therefore thank you very much for making optional objectives as optional because I only found 5 of 7 secrets and 1060 of 6513 loot. :erg:
Thanks, LarryG! Great work! :D
LarryG on 25/1/2012 at 15:05
Well, this way you can complete the mission but still know there is a bit more you can do if you want to come back to it later and explore some more.
Zontik on 26/1/2012 at 05:44
Finished on Normal, going to replay in several days.
But one thing still bothers me.
Invis.-speed-potion, the last component. I can't solve that riddle.
Please help, I give up.
Zontik on 26/1/2012 at 05:45
Sorry for double posting.
nickie on 26/1/2012 at 07:29
Zontik: Outright spoiler I think you mean a padlock. And don't forget the potion bottle
