Greetings taffers.
I'm looking into upgrading my comp so that I can play T:DS. Currently I have only a 7.5 Mb Video card, and I know I need a much better one to play DS on. My question: Is there a card which I should be looking for which would be better, without being too expensive? and are there cards which would be better than others for the purpose?
I know I've been told before to leave ATI cards alone...
Thx in advance

you should go and thank the guy tho gave you that advice-a big kick in the crotch should do nicely.
if you need a cheap lowend card,go for radeon9550 or better,or geforce 6600 or better.avoid 64bit versions at all costs, and you should be good.
you may want to post your full system specs, that is quite helpful if you want an accurate recommendation..

:laff:
I've never even heard of a 7.5MB video card...

its probably 8MB.my guess is that he gave us the info from dxdiag-sometimes it doesnt show the video memory size correctly, stripping down exactly 0.5MB

All I had until a couple of months ago was just a crappy 8MB ATI Mobility "card" (I would call it a "useless piece of shit")

I did use dxdiag to determine that, yes...
according to dxdiag, it's a VIA Tech VT8361/VT8601 Graphics Controller, running on an Intel Celeron 1100 MHz, 248 MHz RAM... any other info on the system, and I'll have to figureout some other way to get it, 'cause we've just hit the limits of my technical expertise.
Thx for the suggestions.

I'm no expert either, but I'd be surprised if your motherboard will support any video card capable of playing T3. At any rate, your CPU isn't even close to being able to play it. I'd suggest getting an all new PC, you'd probably spend more upgrading everything than just buying a bundled system.

not everybody can afford a new system.assuming he has an agp port,if he buys a (
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102484) dx9 capable card,he will be able to play t3 (800*600,low detail of course+some chokes here and there).
but if he has a pci slot-only motherboard (quite possible, those everything-integrated pre-build systems are really awful, especially those older ones),he should better forget about any upgrades and start saving maney on some decent system.and he'd better get some pc-techie guy to buy it for him,or he'll end with an overpriced dell with integrated graphics (and no agp/pci-e slot) again..

Well, I certainly won't be buying a Dell anytime soon, if ever.... My Dad's already gone that route, and I can't say I've cared for the experience.
My current setup was built by a local comp store, from parts, to my Dad's specs about two years ago.
As far as requirements, I was under the impresion that T:DS would run on 1.1 Ghz, but I see now I was wrong, it requires 1.5... how absolute is that requirement if I can get the proper Video card? Or do I just need to say "taff it" until I can save up $$ for a new system?
