LANs are, I think, an optional add-in rather than something included in a patch. They're whole mini-systems for you to hack.

LANs are active in v1.54, though you'll need to have a ranking near 'Elite' before they start to show up.
You'll need the Connection Analyser and the LANView add-on as well as LAN Scan/Spoof/etc software according to your preference.
To get more servers to bounce off, log into InternetNIC and simply add any servers to your list (you're best with 'Internal Services' machines at the start. If you hack an Internal Service machine and then simply disconnect when you have the password, you'll have admin access for around 24hrs, if you enter the system and delete files, you'll often lose the password immediately unless you're v. fast.
Stick with it catbarf, it sounds like you're not even onto the really fun stuff like the Voice Analyser! And remember you can always start the Proxy Disable immediately you hack the password - let it run while you're searching the Social Secords records for your target.
And don't forget to check out Introversion's other stuf: Darwinia, Defcon (and Multiwinia!). They really are one of the last hopes for intelligent (non-graphics and AV-driven) game development.
Peace.

I stand corrected! It's been ages since I've played it - I really must go back again.

One more thing - the game could really use a hotkey for disconnection! :cheeky:

Too right :o

LANs ruled, you had to essentially use everything you have - hacking passwords, disabling proxies, firewalls, digging phone number of the admin to get his voice, all while you're being tracked.

Oh, come on, I never got around to try the Darwinia, but Defcon(And also Uplink to a lesser extent) was silly in it's simplicity, and quite AV-driven.

Why do people always throw around the word 'simple' like it's impossible for a simple game to be good? I've never understood that.
Koki on 8/10/2008 at 12:04
Simple games can be good, but only complicated games can be very good?
Maybe.

I would disagree, but that's more of a personal philosophy of mine than anything else. :) Still, I'm going off topic and apologise!
