Shane Carruth, writer and director of Primer has a new film on the way.

I understand he also has another project called A Topiary in the works too, but I can't find much about it and the website is anything but informative: (

Primer is, in its own way, brilliant. It's confusing as hell because it's as complex as hell and I don't claim to fully understand all the steps in it, but it is good sci-fi and, dare I say it,
realistic sci-fi. I suppose that the lack of lasers and spaceships and general sci-fi "epicness" contribute to that; its grounded in reality because its contemporary and not too outlandish. Compare it to Back to the Future (another time-travel great) and its just more believable and so more compelling. Yes yes, BttF is a completely different kind of film but they naturally share elements because no one goes to the far, far future a la The Time Machine, and its all about issues in the immediate time frame.
Aaaaanyway.
I'm excited about Upstream Color because of the writer and director and because the info we have leads me to believe it'll be Primer-esk in it's scope - a monumental sci-tech issue that we see through the lens of an intimate story.
I wish there were more films like this.

Can't say much more than: Cool, looking forward to it.

Trying to glean anything from this ...
Quote:
"A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives."
The first thing that comes to mind is Solaris, the ageless monolithic organism pulling people into its thoughts and blurring reality and dream. Another angle is they are in the dream of some creature itself, trying to piece their real world lives back together from it.
Or it could conceivably just be a normal relationship movie about losing their identity from their past hurts & needing each other for comfort...

Have you seen Timecrimes, SubjEff? Like Primer, it's a low-budget time-travel film that takes a more grounded approach over a smaller time-frame. It's nowhere near as nerdy as Primer but it's still quite clever and I found it to be a much stronger film overall.

Primer is in my top-ten all time films, and I thank TTLG for introducing it to me. Very excited.

A Topiary will probably never be made in its original conception because it's bugfuck insane.
I've got the script somewhere.
