I just noticed this the other day. (

Apparently they're going to use a proprietary version of the Q3 engine with enhanced graphics for the next release. This is done to prevent cheating, and so that a passport system can be implemented. I wonder if the game will still be free though? I will gladly hand Frozen Sands $10 or $15 if it is a quality upgrade that remains cross-platform. Just please don't pull a Nexuiz on us Frozen Sands! I'm not going to buy a RRODBox or RootkitStation to continue to enjoy this game.
Whether free or for pay, just remain available on any computing platform: that's all I ask.
In the months that I've played this game, I've seen *one* person who I can guarantee was using an aimbot. That really isn't so bad IMO.

RRoDbox? RootkitStation? Are you for real?

I don't play on consoles because they take away my freedoms.

How bout "I don't play on consoles because the multiplayer servers will be gone in less than 3 years." As fun as a game like this is, it is worthless if there's nobody else playing.

i dont buy chairs because they break down after a few years
lost_soul on 14/11/2010 at 21:29
I can repair my broken chair or pay Tim down the street $10 to do it. What can Joe user do when the servers for his favorite console game are shut down by the gatekeeper?

I guess I gotta concede that point. That said, I'd rarely ever use a console for online multiplayer, so that doesn't matter too much to me. Not when you've already got a wealth of fun singleplayer & local multiplayer games to choose from.

They didn't cease distribution nor development of the GPL'ed PC version in favour of the commercial version of Nexuiz for consoles, you moron. The console version is developed by a completely separate commercial game studio, the original version is still a maintained fork by the original dev team.
