I'm trying to follow the guide to make Thief 2 run on a single core:
(
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/hyperthreading/)
This worked for me before, but I've since had to reinstall and this no longer seems to be working. When I run "processor.bat", I get
C:\Program Files\Thief 2\>imagecfg -u thief2.exe
IMAGECFG: unable to map and load thief2.exe
C:\Program Files\Thief 2\>imagecfg -u thief2.icd
thief2.icd contains the following configuration information:
Process Affinity Mask: 00000001
thief2.icd contains a Subsystem Version of 4.0
thief2.icd updated with the following configuration information:
Image can only run in uni-processor mode on multi-processor systems
Image can only run in uni-processor mode on multi-processor systems
C:\Program Files\Thief 2\>imagecfg -a 0x1 thief2.exe
IMAGECFG: unable to map and load thief2.exe
C:\Program Files\Thief 2\>imagecfg -a 0x1 thief2.icd
thief2.icd contains the following configuration information:
Process Affinity Mask: 00000001
thief2.icd contains a Subsystem Version of 4.0
Image can only run in uni-processor mode on multi-processor systems
thief2.icd updated with the following configuration information:
Process Affinity Mask: 00000001
As you can see, this is different then what I should be getting. Based on what it says for thief2.icd, I would almost think that it's already set to run on one core. But when I start Thief 2 and open task manager to check the affinity, it has both cores checked. Any ideas about what's going on here?

Welcome to TTLG :). It seems to me that you're using an original (DRM-) version of Thief 2. Perhaps you would wish to patch it with DDFix in order to resolve some nasty graphics (like 16-bit dithering and a fog absense) and a multi-core issues, but you must follow the FAQ to make this. If you wish to solve just the multi-core issue, you may try (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127533) this tiny and pretty simple solution.
P.S. I think you should have post your problem in (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=153) another topic.

He says he's trying to make it run on a single core though.

I've got a question relating to this..
I've just gotten Thief Gold..
And though I know how to temporarily change the affinity to 1 processor in the task manager while the game is starting,(It works fine for Thief 2). I don't even get the chance to get to the main menu before the game stops responding and quits.
I tried to download the permanent fix and extracy it to /system32, but it says access to that is denied. ._.
Any suggestions?

imagecfg doesn't need to go in the system32 folder. It can go in your main Thief folder.

so, extract it directly into the folder where the Thief application is?
and I'm still having an "access denied" issue...
I'm not sure if it's something WinRAR is doing, or if I'm not set with proper permission to do it..
Urgh. I was hoping the patches the complete collection came with would make thins easier.. but noo.
