I installed the MP patch but I'm probably never gonna play a multi-player game. I saw a post on here that indicates that the MP patch screws up the SP game. If I re-install in order to get back to the original SP version, will I have problems with my saved games?

You shouldn't, but how many times have you heard that before
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/wink.gifJust take your last couple of save game files and back them up into a different directory to be on the safe side. DX shouldn't touch your saved games, but who knows what could go wrong. When you reinstall it, make sure your save games are still there. If they aren't, then simply get the ones that you backed up from the backup directory.

Sorry Bandit, but you're wrong. If he does this, the game will be unplayable from the saves. You have to back up the ENTIRE Save folder (Deus Ex/Saves). If you don't want every save, you can delete the ones you don't want, but this must be done in-game.
Also, back up the User.ini and Deusex.ini files in the System folder. These contain all the engine settings and key bindings.
I also strongly suggest deleting the Deus Ex directory after uninstalling. The save files (comprised of a save, and several maps) can become easily corrupted.
Trust me on this (from one patch tester to another). This is from personal experience as well as several dozen people from the Ion Storm board. Follow those directions, and you shouldn't have any problems.
If you do have a problem with crashes from your backed up save games, go into that specific save, and replace all the maps in there fresh from the CD.

Phydeaux,
Please do not talk out your ARSE. I am not wrong, I am talking from experience. I can tell you're a little slow, so let me define Experience for you. Experience= What I have done to correct the very same problem mentioned above.
Again, I am not wrong, I simply gave him info. from my personal experiences. Also, you're talking to a guy that doesn't understand PC's that well, because if he did, then he'd already know how to backup the savegames, so why in the hell are you telling him to backup his user.ini files? That is so petty. Let him simply backup his savegames, then reconfigure his controls.....it only takes 2-5 minutes to do so.

Damn dude, settle down. I'm not out to get you (although I kinda dissagreed with you on another post...hmm).
I certainly don't mean offence, but I've gathered a lot of knowledge about errors and fixes with this game over at Ion Storm BB. I don't talk out of my "ARSE". I post to help people.
I told him to back up the other files, becuase it's a pain in the ass to reset everything. (Not really sure how telling him this can be considered "petty".
Sorry if my trying to help gets your panties in a bunch. I don't want a war here (with a moderator or anyone). I'm not here to piss people off, or give misleading, useless information to unknowing people. I'm here because I enjoy helping people play and experience the best game ever made.

A bit of clarification...If he backs up the saves he needs, and doesn't delete the Save directory, he shouldn't have any problems. I reccomend deleting the Save directory because of the corruption problems I mentioned above. If the multiplayer patch messes up the single player, it may mess up his saves as well.

BackDoorBandit - I appreciate the attempt to help but you're awfully arrogant to say that I don't know much about PCs. Especially when you clearly didn't understand my very simple question. I asked if re-installing the original SP version would mess up my saves, but I'm not talking about whether re-installing will DELETE the save files. I'm talking about whether or not games that were saved while I was playing under the MP-patched version will exhibit problems when loaded and played under the (re-installed) SP version.
If I'm bright enough to download the MP patch, uninstall and reinstall the game, don't you think I am bright enough to know how to copy files out of a directory in order to save them from deletion?
But again, I do appreciate your reply, so I'm not trying to just blast you. I was just pretty offended that you first gave me a simplistic answer (after not understanding my question) and then had the nerve to say that *I* am the one who doesn't understand things.

Hey BackDoorBandit, sorry for my semi-angry reply. After re-reading my original message I guess it wasn't too clear. Gonna repost it and ask it in a different way.

Hey guys,
No offense taken from either of you.
Phydeaux,
I know you're not out to get me, but please refrain from saying I'm wrong, I'm sorry if I seem arrogant to either of you, but I can only tell you what I've don personally from my experiences, and that's all I was doing in my original post. PC's are different, and different things work for different people, and all I can give is what worked for me.
Kerovan,
NP man, I honestly didn't mean to degrade you in any way, if that's how you took it. I was assuming that you would've known what to do if you knew alot about computers, because anytime I have a problem with a game, I always back up my save games before I reinstall.
Again, I'm sorry to both of you. I did not mean to offend either of you, and I didn't mean to come off aggresive if I did. Can't we all be friends?
