you must keep the overall perspective in mind. For me many games - that happen to be popular - pale in comparison to those old games he worked on.
For you many games pale in comparison to your deluded fantasies of what you think they
should be despite having no fucking clue about game development.

That's the part I understand. It's when you get all vitriolic and essentially dismissive of the games in a way that IMO comes across as obnoxious that you make it oh so easy for people to say, "Tssh, it's mothra. Move along, nothing to see." The loudest parts of your earlier post just seem to boil down to something along the lines of "
The Dark Knight is lowest common denominator drivel because it neither has the ambition nor the depth of <insert great niche/cult film here>", which is neither fair nor accurate. There's definitely a kernel of truth in what you say - I love
HL2 and have played it several times, but I think it's fair to say that Valve overuses some of its tricks and becoming formulaic - but it's wrapped in hyperbole, aggression and dismissive arrogance to the extent that it becomes easy to ignore what you're saying and just filter it out as so much noise.

Hokay, sorry mothra. I didn't understand before that you're a better gamer than me. Now I TOTALLY get your post.

I don't get this. I've read through this thread and been surprised at people being a little presumptuous and jumping on him, at what point did he claim to be better?
Why is it ok for people to constantly spout vulgar shit provided they share your opinion, but if someone doesn't foam at the mouth with zealous fervour they're wrong?
RE:Topic. I liked Shock and DX as much as anyone, maybe more so the latter, but what has he done lately? Wiki suggests his last project was Tomb Raider:Something.
If he brings a greater narrative to Valve games then thats cool I guess, but then they wouldn't really be valve games. Half life wouldn't really be the same if it was vastly different.

Because mothra isn't popular. Or dosen't swear enough, I'm not sure which. I doubt this thread would have as many replies if someone from the in crowd would have posted such a opinion though.
Edit-
Also to contribute to the thread, I think its nice to see someone who's worked on games I like working for a company that I think is okay. However unless he gets to head up his own game then I doubt this will have a notable influence on the Valve product. Realistically he's just one more guy contributing to a rather large company, he won't have room to be hotshotting and driving a game like he did with LG. I don't think its a bad move for either party but its not a coup of industry that will turn things on their head.
However I hope to be wrong and see him do something amazing with Valve that trumps Deus Ex and System Shock if you threw their CDs into a blender and poured the powder into your disk drive. Maybe he can help Half Life 3 happen in time for 2012 or something.

Maybe you should read Thirith's post, because he says exactly why. mothra's posts tend to be on the dismissive and obnoxious side whenever he doesn't like something. This is apart from the fact that there are little if any concessions in his posts for anything the game would have done right. It's exactly just, 'this game isn't good enough for me because it's X and it sucks hugely, fuck it all': not what I'd call an even-handed view. He does this often enough and in such a plainly obnoxious and annoying manner, as noted, that it comes off as just some sort of frenzied bile-spew that's best ignored.
You can spout vulgar shit if you want to here, no one's going to stop you, but a good idea is to try and temper your criticism with a balanced view of things. Reading a post that's an exercise in pure adulation and hyperbole about how great Game X is and goes on for paragraphs at length repeatedly about it is equally as annoying.

Obviously he's not popular because he doesn't swear enough.

Have to say that many others here do exactly the same thing but without the coarse reception. In fact they can be lauded for it.
It seems more to do with the subject matter and fitting in with people's inner fanboys.
“Conform or get out.”
Nothing to do with Mothra trying to make himself look cool - that's what other people do when they jump on people. At least he had some valid points.
This dota2 seems like it could give him more freedom since it's a strategy game. However if you look at valve's design philosophy, it is the complete opposite of that of looking glass studios. Blockbuster rollercoaster with shallow mechanics and plot evasion as opposed to immersive world that encourages player exploration and has a strong narrative. ((
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135110&p=2054179&viewfull=1#post2054179) Second half of this post for expansion on the matter, if of interest, provided you're not going to have a hissy fit).
Both can produce good games however the former really is a kind of play once and there's little to go back to. It also feels much more like a game.

mothra has no valid points ever.
Even if he says something I totally agree with he's still wrong.
