Wouldn't that break some copyright laws?
You mean if we don't look at the fact that valve currently owns the trademark?
EvaUnit02 on 20/3/2011 at 15:38
They've only copyrighted "DOTA", not "Defense of the Ancients". Regardless, the DotA ownership debate is an endless one. I'm still surprised that Valve have been able to get away with it. This isn't as clear-cut as CS, TF, DoD, etc. where the original developers were still in their respective driver's seats.

Just ignore my damn post. Delete your posts, and I'll delete mine. Not that I think you'd really give a damn, it's just that I've been put in a sour mood.

As far as I know, Blizzard doesn't have copyright on any WC3 mod, that is why Valve can directly port the heroes, skills and specifics over, more so because they have the sole designer of the mod working for them now.
Blizzard fucked up that is. They made sure with SC2 that this will not happen again, meaning that any mod that is built on it is completely their property, if they want it that way. They have announced their own dota (Starcraft 2 DotA iirc) and shat their pants when Valve didn't like it, because they own the copyright for "DotA".
Then there's stuff like Heroes of Newerth, who can't port heroes from the WC3 dota from x.xx patch onwards because of copyright issues, which kind of weird.
TL;DR It's all fun legal mumbo jumbo that was really interesting to follow and still is.

No need to be
sour, my friend. You said yourself you were tired as heck, and your post reflected that. I was kinda hoping you'd edit your post and restate your point with a clearer head rather than just delete it outright. Blame it on the written word, but I was just ribbing you a bit, not trying to be a dick. Sorry if it seemed like we ganged up on you.

If those two DOTA renders are related to that first picture in any way whatsoever, it is presumably a little less "direct" than suggested. Damned if I can see a single similarity of note.

Second picture is from world of warcraft. Other than that I have no idea what's going on, here.
