The thing is that dota uses warcraft 3 assets, so valve can never directly copy the look of lina, not that they have to, since making a proper art-style for dota 2 from the start is only good.
Dota as a mod is a mishmash with great gameplay.

What the hell is wrong with DoTA anyway? As far as I'm concerned having Doug Church help develop DoTA 2 may in fact be a good thing, innovative or not. The potential for a solid, top-down multiplayer game is something I would look forward to. Perhaps, you guys have forgotten how shitty recent multiplayer games have been. (CoD: Black Ops, Magicka's buggy start, Total War: SHOGUN 2...)

They've got one great top-down multiplayer game already, Alien Swarm. It's just sad that there is no publicity, no strong playerbase, almost no modding scene. There was a lot of potential for expansion.

magicka may be buggy but it's also the one game I gladly accepted any crashes and problems since I played it 44hours according to steam and will again once I return from my holidays. never had that much fun for a long time. it's THE coop experience of 2011 sofar.
I played AlienSwarm 45h and loved it. Yeah, I hope there's gonna be more Swarm, too but I did not hear any news on that.
I don't know DOTA but afaik it is a game where all the rules are already set in stone and I can't see anyone having any creative input in it besides graphics, the gameplay is not gonna change in any way. At least that's what I heard.

And heroes of newerth pretty much fine-tuned dota as it is, with every kind of engine and connectivity improvement.
So I wonder what valve is doing, considering how hardcore and a harsh multiplayer environment dota is compared to everything they've done.

So how many hats is Doug designing, exactly?
