Valve vaguely open to discussing being acquired, community reacts accordingly - by june gloom

The (
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=19695) Gamasutra article has some choice bits, such as:
Quote:
If anyone is interested in acquiring Valve, VP Doug Lombardi is "happy to have that conversation," he told Gamasutra in a recent interview.
"By the same token, the company's doing pretty well, and we're really happy with what we're doing," he added.
"So we'll see. I mean, anything is possible."
And:
Quote:
"EA was very progressive about saying, 'We understand who you guys are. We understand what Steam is. We don't want Steam to go away.' Well, they might want Steam to go away, but they're not asking us to make Steam go away."
(

What does TTLG think?
For the record I choose not to worry about it unless they actually DO get into talks about it. For now, though, it's just Doug Lombardi running off at the mouth again. I've learned not to really trust him.

Its bad enough that theres a good chance of EA taking over Take 2 interactive (which would lead to the death of GTA and several of Take 2`s more controversial games) if they took over Valve the industry would be pretty damn fucked atleast on the pc side of things anyway. All that would be left would be Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. Fuck that I say. Competition is alot better than 1-3 big companies battling it out for pc gaming.
If it did happen, alot more people would move across to purely console gaming and just playing emulators on pc`s I`d estimate.
And I agree with the poster on that link. I`d rather see Valve go bankrupt or something and disapear than see "Halflife 4" with a EA logo on it. They can go get fucked. Done enough harm to gaming as it is.

Because the first thing a publisher who acquired rights to one of the most popular and best-selling series of all fucking time is to can it in the name of proper moral values of Christian United States of America.
Fuck you all and your "OMG EA = ANTICHRIST!11" bullshit. I don't even know WHAT your problem with EA is other than
they publish games which sell millions. Enlighten me.

Exactly.
As for the EA thing, well if you haven't figured it out by now you never will. I'll let someone else waste time trying to explain it to you.

Christ Koki, we all know you don't like dethtoll but at least try to put some bloody argument into your arguments.
Koki on 7/8/2008 at 20:32
The whole bloody point is that you're the one who should provide arguments. EA's operating under what I like to call "Windows Legacy". We all know that Windows crashes all the time, right? Wrong. 98SE was stable enough, 2000 was very good, and XP never crashed on me once through the four years I've been using it. But since early Windows versions were choppy and produced BSOD(Which is not really crash at all anyway) Windows is doomed forever to be thought of as unstable.
And EA's story is the same, except I can't even think of WHAT it was they did that made them a target practice of gaming experts everywhere. Their sports games? Even if all they really did was to update the roosters(And they don't) then jesus, who cares? No one orders you to BUY the new game. Just mod the rooster yourself if that's all you need, if you don't, well pay up. They certainly don't release bad games, just looking at my shelf I have BF2142 and Crysis, two games I consider at least good. They don't usually put Starforce or idiotic protection systems on their games either. And please, don't cry me rivers about how they're strangling young, ambitious indie developers, because a) Everyone does and b) Mirror's Edge, probably most "original" title this year, is published by EA.

They produce same-y games year after year with minor improvements, have a marked lack of creativity and instead preferring to milk franchises dry, and in regards to their programmers they have decided that a man
is a piece of fruit.

Well, there was (
http://ea-spouse.livejournal.com/274.html) this, although personally I think it was blown all out of proportion and I don't have any particular axe to grind myself.
p.s. lol livejournal

Sorry to break topic, but WTF is that video and WTH does it have to do with the topic at hand?
Damn you Brits and your weird sense of humour!
june gloom on 7/8/2008 at 21:46
It's only blown out of proportion if you're a Japanese salaryman and think working 13 hours a day 7 days a week is normal.
EA's made some big positive changes in the last few years- though obviously it's a work in progress.
