I`m still waiting to see what the vivendi / Activision merger results in. I`m just hoping that blizzards games stay at their same quality.
I don't think it's Blizzard you have to worry about in that merger. Massive Entertainment and Swordfish Studio are reportedly being sold, there's been mentioned of heavy staff 'realignment,' numerous titles that were in development are now searching for new publishers, and then you have this little tidbit:

The news comes alongside confirmation that of Sierra’s product slate, only Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age, Spyro, Prototype and an as-yet unannounced property will make the transition to the newly-formed Activision Blizzard.

As for Valve talking about getting acquired, I'm not a huge fan of them anymore and this hardly surprises me; however, I'd doubt the company would really survive such a acquisition. As many have pointed out, Valve isn't a very efficient studio and I do not believe that they have met a single target date since they were formed. You also have to remember the whole September 30th fiasco that was created by Gabe just picking a date and the rest of the team not having the heart to tell him that there was an extremely thin chance of them ever making it.

They take just as long as Blizzard to make their games. I don't see what's so "inefficient" about it- Blizzard seems to be doing okay for themselves, and they care a lot less about their customer base.

EA these days, let's see...
Mirror's Edge
Dead Space
Spore
E3 pretty much showed that EA is a source for innovation right now.

Well, there was (
http://ea-spouse.livejournal.com/274.html) this, although personally I think it was blown all out of proportion and I don't have any particular axe to grind myself.
p.s. lol livejournal
I read that a while back, whether it's completely accurate or not it's still frightening. I hope that by the time I enter the industry (6y) things will have changed at least somewhat...
Perhaps (
http://www.linux.com/articles/29390) unionization could help.

I'd like to see valve get acquired just so I can watch their fanboys bitch and moan in agony. :ebil:
That would be quite amusing indeed.

Do you have anything useful to contribute?
Koki on 10/8/2008 at 09:31
Pot to kettle: You're a nigger.
Ulukai on 10/8/2008 at 18:31
There's going to be niggers flying about if you two fag up any more threads with your Internet Peacock routine
Muzman on 11/8/2008 at 05:16
You have a gun that fires niggers? At Peacocks?
Anyway, Valve selling up is a terrible idea. Why the hell would Gabe want any more money? Plus there's at least one more generation of consoles to endure yet before the mediaverse gives up and goes open mega multiplatform. That means another whole cycle of half assed ports and even intelligent devs going 'Consoles are the future" at the behest of publishers and exclusivity deals, and PR companies leaking juked stats indicating the "PC is dead" for fanboy street teams to repeat in forum threads.
A season of that bullshit with no Valve to back us up would be so much more annoying.
