Well, with Unity 5 and UE4, this is an exciting time to be in games development, isn't it?
Now let's hope the medium as a whole isn't inundated with sheer volumes of crap.

"Sheer volumes of crap" is indeed the phrase that came to my mind when the article stated that any game made with Source 2 will have to be launched on Steam. I've searched around for more clarification on that but can't find anything at the moment. It sorta sound like any ol' piece of crap you could throw together in a day would end up on Steam automatically, but that can't possibly be it, can it?
Anyway, yes, exciting time for indie devs!

Yes...on more than one major front.

The dilution of quality due to democratized opportunity, has been something I've been concerned about for quite some time...now, more than ever...Yet, in the end, I believe the jewels will still sparkle among the inevitable vast cacophony of substandard creations.

It sounded to me more like if you can't get your project accepted on Greenlight, you don't get to publish it at all. :erg: Of course, if Greenlight is really going away like they said, then this isn't an issue either way.

No...There will have to be a quality control system, via Greenlight or other filter, in order to keep a minimum standard...Where that threshold will be, is yet to be seen.
