For anyone who's never played this before-- Forget about building a ranged character on your first runthrough. The combat system heavily favors melee. Plus you don't have to buy ammo.

Is it possible to overlook the leather/piercing gothic* "i'm so evil" look of the characters, and heavy industrial rock (i really can't listen to Ministry)?
The characters may look like that in screenshots, however their personalities are nothing like that in-game. And that's what I personally find is the best aspect of it. You feel a connection with this weird demented assortment of NPC's you meet in the game and start to really care about what happens to them. Not a kids game, because a kid wouldn't understand all the in jokes and perverse sexual innuendos. A game made by adults for adults.
For 10 bucks, you can't go wrong. And even if you don't use the fan related patches, the bugs were removed with the one official patch the game got which I'm sure is the version Steam is selling.
Oh and as for the industrial rock, it's really only there a few places in the game.

I never managed to convince myself giving a try to this game because i was never sure if i'd like playing it, considering videos and screenshots i found. I did read a lot of very favorable reviews and comments on TTLG, but i didn't make the step, because here's the thing:

(*so far from the original Frankenstein movies i must deplore)
I get the impression that since it is so rooted to genre and aesthetics i'm really not into, i couldn't enjoy it. I'd be glad to reconsider my opinion if anyone with the same distastes did however appreciate this game. Which is basically why i'm posting this...
You're seriously not playing the hidden classic of 2004 just because you don't like that some of the characters dress a little gothy? That's dumb. That's like me saying I won't play Deus Ex 'cuz JC looks like Neo from the Matrix. That would get me peed on and you should get peed on too. Play the damn game before you judge.
And you can always change the music. I like swapping out the Lacuna Coil (which hasn't been good in years) with Type O Negative.

You can choose from more than one character to play. Depending on HOW you play the game, and your final outcome, there are 5 different endings.
This is a great game, replay value is high. I've played it about 4 times. For $9.99 anyone would be a fool to pass this up.

Well i was asking for someone to push me from the ledge in the sacrificial fire pit, a part of me being reluctant. Call that misplaced anticipation dampening my curiosity.
Anyway, condering the boldness of arguments and all around praise, i'll let myself fall. Thanks for enlightment!

I swear those Vampire fans come out with a new patch, at least when I was keeping up with them, every other week. Fanatic fan patch I call it. Definitely have to have the fan patch.

I've wanted to play this for a while, thanks for the thread!

I should caveat that I'm not entirely unbiased in this, since recent releases of the patch include some editing tools that I built using the game's own scripting engine. Python... bleh.

I'd buy it but I have Fallout 3 now..
Given the timing of it, I will have to pass and wait for further sale next Halloween.
