But you probably shouldn't play Malkavian on the first run through, as a lot of Malk dialog is incomprehensible if you don't already know what's going on.

Yes, Malk is definitely better as a replay after you already know what the game is like when "normal". Well worth replaying indeed.

My first time was as a Tory, partly 'cuz I liked the look, partly 'cuz I liked being closer to Humanity (only ever frenzied once, and nobody was around), and partly 'cuz I liked Celerity. ;)

Uh, I was playing with the fanpatch and it clearly had two options to choose from - bugfixes and no content change and bugfixes and content change(Mostly balancing tweaks and stuff from what I gathered).
Keep in mind I haven't played in over a year so I dunno what the fanpatches are like these days. All I remember is that there were two threads of fanpatches, being that exact choice you mentioned.

Could you seriously play a game, especially an RPG, where you don't even like your character?
The reason why I myself didn't get into Bloodlines right away was pretty similiar. I read handbook for Vampire as a kid and it was utterly and completely silly in it's oh god my soul woe my curse. Fortunately the game is nothing like this and fucking awesome.
I will grant that Bloodlines suffers from its own source material's reputation, but seriously that's no reason not to play it. I personally think the source material has some good ideas, it's just been co-opted by mallgoths.

Wesp forked his patch into a bugfix-only and "Plus" patch.

I totally forgot about the Malkavians. I totally should replay as one. Course, I haven't played the game in four years, so who knows if I'll remember enough of the plot to get their dialog.
But yeah, apart from bugs, awesome game.

I honestly don't see anyone having trouble using a Malkavian on their first playthrough. Unless they're the dense type that's surprised by the lame plot twists in your average M. Night Shymalan/David Fincher-esque mainstream Hollywood thriller.

Thankfully, the only thing I found really cringe-worthy, besides the industrial-rock soundtrack (which is only used in the clubs, right?) were the posters for shitty bands scattered everywhere. Considering the Whitewolf source-material is about as gay as you can get, I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and characters in the game.
Hey, you leave Collide and Tiamat alone:mad: , they're not shitty bands.
Yes and I have to say that Malkavians are awesome to play with, they are delightfully insane and their conversation options are hilarious

:wot: You put David Fincher and M. Night Shymalan in the same sentence? I don't think any of the plot twists in "Seven" are lame and "Zodiac" was one of the best movies of 2007 and far from the usually Hollywood thriller.

Clearly Eva hasn't seen The Happening

That was the worst movie I have ever seen.
